Low VIX isn’t automatically bearish. But at 14.97, the asymmetry is changing. Equities can keep grinding higher while volatility stays compressed — but the market is now getting paid very little for assuming nothing goes wrong. The risk isn’t “VIX must spike tomorrow.” It’s that further volatility compression offers less reward, while any surprise has much more room to reprice.
