A handful of stocks now dominate US market trading: Nvidia, $NVDA, is the most actively traded stock in the US market, accounting for 3.0% of total market notional volume year-to-date. This is followed by Micron, $MU, at 2.8%, Tesla, $TSLA, at 2.1%, and SanDisk, $SNDK, at 1.5%. Together, the 10 most-traded stocks have accounted for an average of 16.4% of total market notional volume YTD. Meanwhile, some of these names have worse liquidity than the average S&P 500 stock, with SanDisk posting an average bid-ask spread of 12.4 basis points, more than double the S&P 500's 5.9 basis point average. Tesla, Microsoft, $MSFT, and Alphabet, $GOOGL, also have smaller average order sizes available at the best bid and offer than the typical S&P 500 stock, suggesting thinner liquidity despite their enormous trading volumes. A few stocks a driving a massive amount of market volume.

@KobeissiLetter A handful of names driving this much volume while some of them have worse liquidity than the average S&P stock is a strange combination.

@KobeissiLetter ⤴️ Fix that.

Trading volume tells you how many people are buying and selling. It doesn't tell you how easy it is to actually get in or out without moving the price. SanDisk gets traded a ton and still costs more to trade than the average stock, like a busy restaurant that's still slow to get a table at. Volume means popular. It doesn't mean smooth.

@KobeissiLetter Crazy how four names now move nearly a tenth of all US volume. x.com/i/grok/share/7dbc270a81b…

The stat that puts this in perspective - SanDisk is turning over more than 10% of its market cap in trading volume on most days, a level only Lumentum comes close to matching. That's not just heavy trading, that's a stock where the entire ownership base is functionally rotating every two weeks. When a $200 billion company trades like a meme stock, that's where the real risk sits, not in the mega-caps.

@KobeissiLetter QQQ at 717 again. The market really said “here’s your emotional support level” and just left it there like a toxic situationship that keeps texting “u up?” every time you try to move on. My call of longing is currently in the group chat watching this unfold in real time.

@KobeissiLetter Volume ≠ liquidity. Top 10 stocks doing 16% of all trading while some have worse spreads than the average S&P name. That’s not strength, that’s fragility.

liqwhale @liqwhale ·

Although a stock e.g. $SNDK is the fourth most traded name in the market, it is not customary to have a trading scissors of 12.4 basis points. More than twice the S&P 500 average (5.9 basis points), these scissors indicate that market makers avoid price risk despite the high volume.

@KobeissiLetter The concentration of trading volume is wild. A few names are doing a huge amount of the market's heavy lifting.

Tyler | Crypto Whale @TylerHODL17 ·

@KobeissiLetter damn that bid-ask spread on $SNDK is wild. everyone's trading these names but the liquidity is a trap.

“Notional volume” means dollars traded, not number of shares. So NVDA at 3.0% of all US market trading is basically saying one stock is now a major liquidity venue by itself, which matters because flows, options hedging, and headlines in a few names can pull the whole index around even if the average stock is doing something else.

Growth Wealth BluePrint @GrowthwealthBP ·

@KobeissiLetter The headline isn’t just that a few stocks dominate trading. It’s how dependent market activity has become on the same names. When capital, liquidity and attention crowd into a small group of stocks, diversification becomes more important — not less.

Gaius ♦ @0xGaius ·

@KobeissiLetter It's getting more concentrated every year. The interesting part isn't just the volume, it's that some of these names still have relatively thin liquidity. That can make moves a lot more violent when everyone heads for the exit at the same time.🤔

@KobeissiLetter A handful of companies now account for a huge share of US market trading. Nvidia alone represents 3% of total market notional volume YTD. When trading concentrates this heavily, what happens if the market's most-traded stocks suddenly turn?

Myntis @myntisai ·

@KobeissiLetter A few names driving most volume concentrates attention and risk. Liquidity depth still matters more than raw turnover.

@KobeissiLetter Concede the concentration, then correct the mechanism. The top 10 account for 16.4% of total market notional volume YTD. All are AI or memory exposure, but the liquidity mechanism is not a market-wide collapse; it is a thin $SNDK tail inside a crowded AI/memory tape.

US Investment Forum @Harrington6M ·

@KobeissiLetter High volume ≠ deep liquidity. The real question isn’t who trades the most it’s who can absorb the selling when everyone wants out at the same time?

@KobeissiLetter That's a striking concentration—interesting to see Micron so close to Nvidia in trading volume.

Macro Alpha @MacroAlphaHQ ·

@KobeissiLetter Volume concentration draws attention to these names, yet the outcome hinges on whether thin order books can handle forced unwinds without cascading.

@KobeissiLetter Extreme volume concentration hides underlying structural fragility.

@KobeissiLetter Thin depth at top of book means a real order walks the tape no matter how many billions cross that name intraday.

TheSixTrader 🇨🇦 @Gmanct1b · 15K

@KobeissiLetter Solid market commentary.

Dominik Feltes @feltesdominik ·

High volume doesn’t always mean good liquidity. A stock can trade billions of dollars and still have a thin order book. This means bigger orders can move the price more than expected, especially when the spread gets wider. That’s why it’s important to look at more than just volume. Spreads, market depth and price impact also matter. Especially when everyone is trading the same stocks.

Adel Bucetta @adelbucetta ·

@KobeissiLetter nvidia's dominance is a symptom of the broader trend: silicon valley innovation now drives market sentiment

GreenKatanaFX @mrKatanaETH ·

@KobeissiLetter NVDA at 3% of total volume and somehow SanDisk still has a spread wider than my morning commute
