@KobeissiLetter

We are witnessing the largest CapEx spending spree in history. Hyperscalers have committed a record $2.6 trillion in future spending across data center leases and equipment purchases. This includes leases for data centers and power infrastructure that have not yet commenced, and existing purchase contracts for equipment and services. These obligations do not appear on company balance sheets and are disclosed only in limited accounting footnotes, despite their enormous size and duration. Alphabet, $GOOGL, has the largest total, with $811 billion in purchase commitments and $85 billion in leases not yet commenced, bringing its combined obligations to ~$896 billion. By contrast, Oracle, $ORCL, has committed $32 billion to purchases, but $260 billion to leases that have not yet commenced, the largest lease obligation among the group, bringing its total to ~$292 billion. The AI buildout has become one of the largest long-term capital commitments in corporate history.

@KobeissiLetter $2.6 trillion isn’t just an AI investment. It’s a massive corporate bet on AI demand staying strong for years. The real risk isn’t spending. It’s what happens if AI revenues don’t catch up with these commitments.

@KobeissiLetter Footnote disclosure for 2.6 trillion. Try explaining that gap to someone outside markets

Off balance sheet leases are the hidden risk here. Markets price AI upside but ignore the fixed cost drag. GOOGL's combined $896B commitment is massive. If revenue growth slows, these obligations hit cash flow hard. ORCL's $260B in uncommenced leases is even more levered. The real question is whether hyperscaler earnings can justify this scale of spending.

Predixa @Predixa_xyz ·

@KobeissiLetter Alphabet’s $896B and Oracle’s $292B are not apples-to-apples. Alphabet is dominated by purchase commitments, Oracle by long-dated leases. The sharper risk measure is annual cash burden versus AI revenue, not the biggest headline total.

@KobeissiLetter the thing that changed isn't the size of it, it's that they're borrowing for it now. this used to come out of cash flow

@KobeissiLetter Hyperscalers are locking in $2.6 trillion to build AI data centers and power. Alphabet alone almost $900 billion. This is the biggest infrastructure buildout in corporate history.

@KobeissiLetter We did witness the same during dot com. Many companies were investing into start ups to buy back their devices. We had record capex. We had record earnings and revenues. But it didn't end up well. Though the technology is still there

@KobeissiLetter In simple terms: Big Tech isn't just buying AI chips. It's reserving future data centers, electricity and infrastructure years in advance. The scale of these commitments shows companies expect AI demand to remain high for a long time.

My friends, Sorry for being a bit oppurtinistic here with my research, but I have some work on this and a tought process around the capex spendings based on facts and a real historical example (Meta). Basically two scenarios possible in my eyes: A) CAPEX spendings will have the ROI hyperscalers expect and then we will see violent price discovery huge price increases for mag7 B) CAPEX spendings will be a failure then we can see huge cuts as soon as realized, this happened before, pls look for it yourself (one word $META as example :D) Anything between the two end of the scale as well covered…

@KobeissiLetter context matters here, this isn’t 2000s style leverage, it’s demand so strong companies are locking in capacity years out. $GOOGL committing $896B only makes sense if cloud keeps compounding the way it has been

Tech News @tech_summaries ·

the debt-to-capex shift is the real story here. for years this was self-funded, but with $1.5T in projected debt issuance, they're now betting the balance sheet on a multi-decade buildout. the question isn't whether they'll spend it, it's if the AI revenue gap closes before the interest payments start biting.

@KobeissiLetter $2.6T in commitments is exactly why I’m still bullish on the AI infrastructure trade. The hyperscalers are fighting an arms race they can’t afford to lose. The real question isn’t whether they’ll spend. It’s who captures the economics of that spending.

This post nails a key point: hyperscalers have quietly locked in ~$2.6T of future data-center and equipment commitments—mostly off-balance-sheet. It’s an unprecedented bet on AI demand. The real test will be whether the resulting revenues arrive before those long-term obligations start weighing heavily on cash flow.

@KobeissiLetter The numbers are staggering, but the real risk is whether demand ever catches up to all this buildout. My position on the shape of the tape this morning → premarketnotes.com/t/tier1-v1-…

@KobeissiLetter This is an extraordinary AI spending boom. Trillions are being committed to data centers, power, and infrastructure. The opportunity is huge, but so are the risks if demand doesn’t keep up with these massive commitments.
