Really hope this mini memecoin season fails to attract new retail to crypto. Don't want them to be enticed by huge gains and then get rinsed by KOLs and lose it all again. Worse if new celebrities join once more to extract from crypto. Crypto degen natives rotating capital is ok but don't want the new ppl to get disenchanted by crypto when so much is being built. Instead, hope that BTC regains momentum and attracts new capital who expect to finally outperform AI trades. Or $ETH and $SOL stories of revolutionizing tradfi with RWAs pick up steam. Even prediction markets narrative is healthier for retail. Just not memes.

@DefiIgnas the RWA side would be lovely ... unsure if im ready for another meme mania to depression arc...

@DefiIgnas celebrities joining to "give back to their community" is the most reliable indicator a top is in

Jacob Marquez @JacobMarquez__ ·

@DefiIgnas The retail damage is not the memecoins. It is the sequencing. They arrive at the top of a rotation, get liquidated, and leave before anything with a product ever reaches them. Then we wonder why adoption numbers stall. Nobody churns like a first-timer who got farmed.

Vadim @vadim_web3 ·

I don’t quite agree. Memecoins and memecoin mania are probably the most crypto-native thing there is. You can trade almost anything, anywhere. Stocks, commodities, whatever. But memecoins are traded here, in crypto. It’s a completely crypto-native use case, even with all the shit that comes with it.

@DefiIgnas Fully agree. Memes are fun for natives, but brutal for new retail. Better they come in through BTC or real utility stories.

flyawei @flyiiawei · 40K

@DefiIgnas This take is spot on. Memes just recycle capital, not grow it.

@DefiIgnas It's a valid concern about the potential for new retail and celebrity involvement to lead to exploitation

$PECK | Portfolio Pigeon @MrCrypto1st ·

@DefiIgnas A healthier memecoin season would make the joke the product and the token optional. When belonging depends on buying late, culture becomes someone else's exit liquidity.

@DefiIgnas I bloody hate all the influencers promoting memecoins. But stupidity is high among those who buys those memes so it will probably come back unfortunatly

Akto Run🔺 @aktorun ·

@DefiIgnas I would say Ok to memes if crypto natives do trades, make some gains and rotate back to SOL/ETH/BTC/AVAX. But for example what PF does to SOL, it is a net negative to chain itself. They continously convert back to Fiat. No idea, why people endorsing PF kind of platforms.

@SignYaps ·

@DefiIgnas I agree with this. Memes can bring attention quickly, but if the first experience for new users is getting farmed by KOLs, they may never come back. The healthier question is what brings people into crypto and gives them a reason to stay.

@DefiIgnas I used to think the same, but I am having several discussions outside my bubble and actually retails nowadays think differently. So yes, meme could be a temporary gateway before they can explore utilities-based projects.

@DefiIgnas YES, memecoins are a cancer

binji @binji_x · 46K

Yeah, saying that a new user who gets rinsed on a memecoin will eventually explore other utility projects is like saying someone who gets food poisoning at a restaurant will eventually come back to explore the rest of the menu. Theyll just leave lol, there’s too many other things to do in life

@DefiIgnas you dont get to separate them that neatly. the same venue pushing memes will sell RWAs, prediction markets, whatever tests well this week. retail doesnt meet crypto through your preferred story, it meets the machine first

Completely agree that onboarding matters. New users shouldn’t have to learn crypto by getting burned first. That’s a big reason we’re building $GLAS: better verification, clearer on-chain intelligence, and tools that help people understand risk before they commit capital. X: x.com/GLASonSol
