this is very cool, zcash potentially getting 3x faster and you can use your encrypted money to vote privately on the proposal! skin in the game governance, privacy, and performance all at display as crypto always should've been

@

We're coordinating a coinholder vote starting August 25 and lasting approximately 18 days, deciding on the scope of the upcoming NU7 upgrade. 1,000,000 ZEC (in Ironwood) will be the minimum necessary to accept the results. https://forum.zcashcommunity.com/t/nu7-token-holder-vote/56912

@mert 3x speed sounds like a lot. hope the network handles it

@mert private vote on a privacy chain shouldn't be news but it is, every other dao still votes in the open like it's a shareholder call

@mert This is what cryptocurrency should be.

Juno.eth @JunoCrypto3 ·

@mert Finally, governance with actual privacy. About time.

@mert private voting removes something most people overlook. whales get watched, copied, pressured into positions. encrypted governance strips that social leverage entirely. the performance proposal is just the first real test of what that actually changes.

@mert encrypted voting with real skin in the game is the kind of governance that actually makes sense most dao setups are just token-weighted theater

@mert how does the privacy layer hold up when the vote tally itself needs to be verifiable?

@mert whats the minimum ZEC needed to vote?

@mert encrypted voting tied to holdings flips governance from signaling to skin in the game most DAOs still pretend one token one vote works without that link

Amin_Eth @aminn_eth ·

@mert That's the kind of upgrade I like to see, improving performance while keeping privacy and governance aligned with the network's core principles.

@mert Shielded governance solves speed but breaks auditability. If vote weight can't be publicly verified, Sybil resistance becomes a trust assumption, not a proof. That tradeoff deserves more attention than the throughput numbers usually get.

@mert Private votes with real skin in the game this is how it should work.

@mert Private, fast, and skin in the game. This is it.

@mert This is also very cool zcash:native zecbooks.app/

SagaPad @sagapad_icm ·

in this industry, we should always look for skin in the game, not 20/20 hindsight. exactly because of that, we launch all our ownership coins at @sagapad_icm under futarchy governance and vet that the underlying projects offer real value worth owning. back to the OP, private voting and transparent governance are partially in conflict and worth exploring further

@mert finally moving away from the theater of open token voting

YonLe @thanhtan1105 ·

@mert encrypted stake for private votes is the real unlock here. 3x speed just makes the whole loop practical without leaking positions.

@mert actually private voting is the only way governance makes sense. otherwise it's just a public leaderboard of who to target.

Privacy Toly @frennadev ·

@mert Could you check out @veilolayer It’s currently the most complete privacy experience on Solana, and we’d love your feedback

@mert Private votes with real skin in the game + actual speed upgrades? That’s the vibe crypto was supposed to have from day one.

@mert Super interesting but does shielded governance make it harder for the community to audit the final results if something goes wrong ?

CrazySuzie @crazy_suzie ·

@mert As it should be. $ZEC is on Fire 🔥 Devs are awesome too

ChainScanner @ChainScannerHQ ·

@mert Setting a strict 1M ZEC threshold (~6% of circulating supply) in Ironwood is a solid benchmark for governance legitimacy. On-chain quorum tracking will be critical here to monitor whether participation is driven by concentrated whales or a broad holder base.
