This was such a great conversation, and there was tons of timely conversation in the wake of Regulation Crypto and the talk about bringing offshore exchanges like Hype onshore.
🚨NEW: We sat down with @dragonfly_xyz General Partner @hadickM to discuss why AI is pulling capital and talent away from crypto, and why he believes it’s only temporary. We also get into Dragonfly’s early bet on Polyma...

This was such a fun interview. Logan has an awesome interview style and we could have gone on for an hour longer then we did. Everything the future of finance and venture capital, and in some ways just life.
My conversation with @HadickM. As General Partner at Dragonfly, Rob has one of the clearest views on how blockchain is evolving from speculative crypto into the actual infrastructure of global capital markets. In this e...

@malekanoms The existence of peer to peer transactions for stablecoins obviously will exist, so will stablecoins as a settlement mechanism for traditional payment rails and banking products. These things are not mutually exclusive and are, in fact, complimentary and synergistic. It’s
I’m on a flight or else I’d respond more thoroughly, and I have a lot of respect for Omid and have guest lectured in his class a number of times. But this is a pretty simplistic response to what is also meant to be a simplistic article for those just exploring the space. It’s certainly not inaccurate or misleading for the customers looking at using solutions like Rain. I expect if Omid could he’d take those words back because that’s clearly untrue and just weakens his other points. On interchange, it’s absolutely true that the existence of interchange increases credit capacity and the addressable customer base, expands geographies and affinity groups, and user perks. It is a shuffling of economic surplus from merchants to users and issuers. Stablecoin cards go even a step further, putting more economic surplus in the hands of users and companies and less to the issuers while still creating the other benefits. The existence of cards in markets with lower interchange isn’t a counter point, in fact when you look at credit capacity and user perks in Europe you see it’s proving the point. On the point about a cost of funding problem, Omid states this is untrue because…. Large global banks don’t have this problem. Again, that’s exactly the point. We are creating a market where cost of capital is reduced for everyone - not just global GSIBs but program managers and fintechs who want to expand globally and do see more cheaply and with better economics. The fact that JPM can settle through an RTP more often than other issuers and program managers is why we need these cards. Because we need competition, modular tech stacks, and global usage of stablecoins. For almost all of the market participants this is undoubtedly a capital uplift - and we are opening up markets and business models for global tech and fintech companies that was not economical or available otherwise. Lastly, the idle balance problem he talks about is true, but actually helps the consumer because the idle balance goes from funding JPM prime to returning capital to consumers holding balances. And his third point about FX fees is sometimes true and sometimes not, but programmable money also means that we can now do smart settlement across FX in lowest cost currency and compress those fees. That’s exactly what we’ve started to see in some cases. Innovation in this area is increasing quickly and stablecoin settlement is at the core of it, while people are expanding globally quicker than ever. You can ideologically want direct peer to peer settlement, but as this post shows you may miss the forest through the trees when we are talking about new financial rails that are clearly making great strides at improving user experiences, shifting economic surplus, and democratizing monopoly markets.
I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but this explainer of how credit cards work by Rain is inaccurate, almost misleading. For the record, I like that team and think stablecoin-backed cards are a great product, but if we...

There’s always this thing that happens in the midst of change where those unable to dream or imagine the future decide to focus on the worst of any given topic or trend. It’s clear, to anyone with deep expertise and experience in capital markets, that the future of prediction markets is broad, a societal benefit, and EV positive to the collective. No one in involved in these companies, whether as operators, investors, or regulators believe that the current state of PMs is the end state. Everyone is actively working to build better market structure, better information distribution, and better opportunities for businesses to manage risk. This is where the world is going. Chair Selig has been incredibly innovative in his thinking on the future of markets. The investors are all focused on helping back truth machines. And the operators are working to make all areas of the economy more efficient. It’s so easy to be myopic when you view your role in life to simply be a critic. And negativity is always easier than positivity. But maybe stop and think about the future for a moment, look at the work that is being done, and try to imagine a world where most people are working to make it better than the one we live in today. And even among the sports markets, you might not like the proliferation of the financialization of sports, but it’s also undoubtedly clear these swaps are better for the consumer than the sportsbooks themselves. And I’ve seen real, large 9 figures trades among corporations hedging business risk using sports markets. There is little incentive for most people to do anything but focus on the most negative and most myopic perspectives, but when you zoom out you realize that the future is bright, and most people are working to make it brighter. And that’s the world I want to live in - one where the innovators are given the benefit of the doubt and the leeway to innovate.

The modern issuing stack is slowly being taken over by those who understand that being modular, stablecoin native, global first, and product led is will the world is going. This acquisition is an absolute no-brainer and will add even more certainty that Rain is the best option for any company issuing a new, modern card who wants to increase spend, build sticky consumer experiences, and have greater control over their products and economics. Congrats to both the Ansa and Rain teams.
