@unusual_whales Worth watching beyond immigration policy. Tighter visa restrictions can eventually affect labor supply, wage pressures and inflation — all variables the Fed watches closely. Immigration policy can become macro policy faster than markets expect. 👀
@unusual_whales how long does this pause actually last, that part matters more than the training itself
@unusual_whales Immigrants built American roads, tech, and economy. But this Trump......
This is the same visa training pause we already covered twice today, just now sourced to WSJ instead of the earlier reports. Same detail worth keeping in mind, it comes right after a judge struck down a related policy suspending visas from 75 countries as beyond Rubio’s authority.
@unusual_whales The U.S. government has temporarily halted immigrant visa applications for training purposes, aiming to enhance scrutiny and implement stricter criteria.
@unusual_whales Nice try, but the admin that announced that left the building years ago, so the “training” must’ve been a history lesson. 🥲 x.com/wlyyliw/status/209264887…
@unusual_whales this is way bigger than just a training pause if there’s no timeline for restarting people are gonna be stuck in limbo
@unusual_whales A country's immigration laws are one of the most important factors determining the country's future. Smart leadership allows skill and brain to enter - or whatever is needed for the country to build itself. Not allowing in anyone rarely worked out well long term. Vice versa :)
@unusual_whales Great move. The entire visa immigration process needs to be overhauled.
@unusual_whales “in-depth training” sounds like bureaucracy doing the tightening for them
Tightening legal immigration processes is seen as a way for states to ensure border security and protect national resources; however, using bureaucracy as a tool to slow down legal immigration indirectly risks increasing the tendency for illegal immigration and narrowing legal immigration routes.
@unusual_whales right after 75 countries visa pauses lifted,,feels seek waiting for family here in US
@unusual_whales A pause for “training” sounds temporary. I think it's clear that the constituents want applications to stop indefinitely.
@unusual_whales how long until normal processing actually resumes?
@unusual_whales They went from getting the criminal illegal aliens out of the country and then skipping the regular illegal aliens to going after the legal immigrants. 🤦♂️
@unusual_whales Temporary visa hold lengthens immigration timelines. It curbs overseas talent flow and tightens labor pools for tech businesses.
