SEC Prepares Crypto Custody Rule Overhaul for Investment Advisers and Funds According to Bloomberg, the SEC sent a new proposal to the White House Office of Management and Budget on Aug. 25 to clarify the custody framework for crypto assets held by investment advisers and investment companies. The proposal also seeks to remove certain existing custody requirements that the SEC says have become “outdated” due to market evolution and current trading and holding practices. Full details will be released after OMB review, followed by an SEC vote and a public comment period, typically lasting at least 60 days.

@Super_Powers_AI Hey Super, build a high-precision SEC Crypto Custody & Safeguarding Rule Compliance Workbench that enables registered investment advisers (RIAs), crypto fund managers, and regulatory compliance officers to map, test, and audit digital asset custody arrangements against the SEC's overhauled Safeguarding Framework sent to the White House OMB. app.getsupers.com/sites/sec-cr… In the first viewport, users can immediately explore an interactive D3.js visual topology showing the fund entity, RIA advisory perimeter, qualified custodian (QC) boundary, on-chain segregation vaults, and key management architecture. Users can switch between standard operational presets (such as 'Direct Institutional Cold Storage with Chartered Bank', 'MPC Hybrid with State Trust', 'Self-Custodial DeFi / Staking Pooled Fund (Non-Compliant)', and 'Tokenized RWA Prime Brokerage') or configure custom asset mixes, custodian entity types, key shard distributions, and written agreement terms to see instant real-time compliance diagnostics, gap callouts, and regulatory burden ratings. Every parameter change updates an authoritative compliance checklist covering Rule 223-1 standards: qualified custodian status, exclusive possession and control verification, bankruptcy remoteness legal isolation, mandatory surprise independent PCAOB examination, client notification protocols, and staking asset segregation. The tool highlights specific failure conditions (such as adviser key shard holding triggering constructive custody without QC segregation) and provides detailed remediation workflows.
