PCE SUPPORTS FED HOLD FOR NOW Capital Economics says July’s core PCE increase is unlikely to trigger a Fed rate hike in September. However, with annual core inflation at 3.3% and economic growth remaining resilient, the firm believes higher rates may eventually be necessary. For now, the data strengthen the case for the Fed to hold rates steady.

@DeItaone resilient growth plus sticky core is the exact combo that keeps cuts further away than the market wants

@DeItaone Maintaining interest rates is a must this year.

@DeItaone Solid insight here. I like comparing a few independent reads before forming a strong opinion. Also checking @thectspot.

@DeItaone Solid take, sticky core at 3.3% plus resilient growth points to a hold in September, with any hike likely further out.

@DeItaone Inflation's stuck in that annoying zone. Too warm to ignore, too mild to panic.

@DeItaone This is the kind of PCE print that keeps the Fed on hold in September, but sticky core inflation and resilient growth mean the market should be careful about pricing an aggressive easing cycle.

@DeItaone PCE sticky. Growth fine. Fed holds. The most expensive sentence in markets remains: “higher for longer.”

@DeItaone Hold is doing heavy lifting there. Core PCE quarter over quarter printed 3.6 percent against 3.4 expected, and the GDP price index came in at 6.4 versus 6.2. Growth looks resilient because prices are. That is nominal, not real. NFA.

@DeItaone The data is sending a clear message: don’t rush it. Inflation is still elevated, but the economy remains resilient. A steady Fed for now could be the right move while policymakers watch the next round of data.

katz @katzspx · C

I think the bigger risk embedded in this PCE print is the prospect of future rate hikes. Even though the July reading won’t force a September increase, the 3.3% annual core inflation and sturdy economic activity mean additional tightening remains a real possibility down the line. Many investors are still overly focused on rate cuts and underpricing this hawkish risk. Will Jackson Hole speeches highlight this lingering threat of further rate increases?

@DeItaone We're talking about the status quo, but the reality is we're navigating by sight. The Fed is stalling because PCE isn't soaring anymore, but inflation remains stubborn. What will happen when growth falters? A pause today, a dilemma tomorrow.

@DeItaone On parle de statu quo, mais la réalité c'est qu'on navigue à vue. La Fed temporise parce que le PCE ne flambe plus, mais l'inflation reste têtue. Ça donne quoi quand la croissance tiendra moins bien ? Pause aujourd'hui, dilemne demain.

@DeItaone Inflation will never fall with an ever-rising stock market - it supports and stimulates too much spending.

@DeItaone The data support patience. Holding rates steady for now gives the Fed room to watch inflation and growth without overreacting. Sound policy requires getting the balance right

David Rush 🔥 @davidrush · D

The interesting tension is that inflation remains elevated while growth is still holding up. That gives the Fed less reason to rush into cuts, but also little reason to tighten aggressively. The next few data releases could be crucial. Curious what others think about this 👇 Drop your thoughts there. x.com/davidrush/status/2092597…

@DeItaone Have you listened to what the print said? Core already sits hot. The hold story is the trap.

Sterling Desk @SterlingDeskFX · D

@DeItaone A Fed hold isn’t automatically bullish. Sticky inflation plus resilient growth keeps real rates restrictive, but markets may price the next move before the Fed makes it. The trade is often in expectations, not the decision.

@DeItaone A Fed hold doesn’t automatically mean easier financial conditions. For capital-intensive AI buildouts, the duration of higher rates still matters.

@DeItaone Trump fucked up. He needs to cancel all wars & tariffs immediately so inflation drops & economy launches before midterms. Might already be too late.

Andrea Lisi, CFA @Andrea_Lisi_CFA · A

@DeItaone No wonder. The Fed will try to find every excuse not to hike. Fed independence is gone

Summer @Nickw8000 · C

@DeItaone The economy has fundamentally changed. AI is creating a new growth engine, yet the Fed still uses inflation targets built for a different era. We need a NEW inflation framework that reflects today’s technology, productivity and growth—not decades-old economic rules.

Matan Sheskin @Matans8442 · C

@DeItaone You’re wrong. The PCE has provided immense ammunition to the Fed committee members who claim inflation is too high. That is why gold and Bitcoin are selling off after a hot inflation print(!), and the dollar is strengthening! What happened to the debasement trade?

Ericnomics @_ericnomics ·

@DeItaone Hold is the base case. 39% chance of a hike in three weeks after a dead-on core print is the debate, not the data.

Bitcoin & Barbells @Btcbarbells · A

@DeItaone PCE at 3.7% and the Fed stuck in neutral. Meanwhile 30 year mortgage rates keep climbing. As someone who buys distressed houses for a living, higher rates just mean fewer retail buyers competing with me at the courthouse steps. The math works in my favor right now.
