We've been working on a verification product and one issue I've found is that there's adverse selection in projects that want verification the most In public markets this doesn't happen cause everyone needs to get audited, but when its voluntary it can create bad bias

@

Any dApp paying @AccountableData for a dashboard is wasting money. The issue though is that Accountable has no major competitors, leaving projects to choose between Accountable or no verification service at all. I hope DeFiLlama's upcoming verification solution will be better. https://x.com/EthanDeFi_/status/2087970248062374084/photo/1

@0xngmi If the riskiest projects want the badge most, it becomes camouflage

@0xngmi The cleanest teams won't pay to prove it

@0xngmi Voluntary verification can create some serious selection bias if nobody else competes

@0xngmi ok, adverse selection in voluntary verification pools

@0xngmi Yeah, the projects most eager to verify are often the ones with the most to hide. Mandatory verification levels the field but requires someone to enforce it. What's your threshold for 'good enough' signal when participation is voluntary?

@0xngmi Adverse selection in which direction?

@0xngmi Isn’t the key understanding how the data is generated, its purpose and whether it can be manipulated? I find that maybe there’s a pre-conceived notion of how the data should be delivered to fit the verification model of the validator. Maybe that’s why/how it’s been exploited?!

@0xngmi Adverse selection turns the badge into a red flag.

@0xngmi Bingo. Adverse selection is the main issue with a truly reliable verification product

@0xngmi Obviously and you shouldnt at all link it to your current product/brand, this is only net negative You would better partner with someone doing it so the liabilities arent on you

@0xngmi Same. We approached teams to be rated for free. Nobody wants to be rated.

@0xngmi voluntary verification is always going to attract projects that need it most, which skews the sample maybe the bias is the point, it shows whos willing to be checked

@0xngmi Globally this looks like adverse selection, but teams here won't even schedule a pitch without a voluntary stamp already in hand.

@0xngmi Not worth the potential liability until standards are set. It’s just a matter of time before @AccountableData is unable to pay out on judgments on investors who relied on their reporting to make decisions.

@0xngmi adverse selection in voluntary verification is a real issue it means the projects that need scrutiny most are the ones opting out

@0xngmi More learnings with voluntary than with nothing. When everyone has to do it, big four will probably take the lead, building or buying competency in the process. Every now and then a new chicklet gets the worm first.

@0xngmi true for launchpad agents too

@0xngmi same pattern on the pre-audit side - the teams that most need a hardening pass are usually the ones who skip it
