@unusual_whales So many better options right outside of the city makes no sense to live there

@unusual_whales Wait I thought rent control made it cheaper? 🤭

@unusual_whales Important denominator: $6,655 is Manhattan’s average rent, pulled upward by expensive units. The median is $5,295, still a record and up 6% year over year. The crisis is real, but the typical new lease is not $6,655.

@unusual_whales That's peanuts compared to groceries youtube.com/watch?v=Nl_Qyk9DSU…

@unusual_whales $6,655 a month just to exist in Manhattan is crazy work.

@unusual_whales Will be interesting to see how these cost pressures impact buy now, pay later adoption. Among the different demographic cuts we track, BNPL adoption is the widest between renters and homeowners. As rents go up, we could see a greater reliance on BNPL to manage other expenses. x.com/MGuntherCE/status/208754…

@unusual_whales Did anyone say New York post lmao 🤣

@unusual_whales And yet people still line up for a $7,000 one-bedroom with no laundry. x.com/i/grok/share/29230bb1593…

@unusual_whales even if you have the money, paying more than 2k in rent is just pure insanity to me

@unusual_whales With this cost of living, wage increases are not keeping pace with the soaring rents

Game of Trades @GameOfTrading_X ·

Because state taxes are being raised by crooked Mamdani. Not only Manhattan— other boroughs are facing high rents too. The only people who loves to live here are mostly homeless bums living in those projects that Mamdani is building. Middle class homeowners and everyone else are struggling.

@unusual_whales Manhattan’s vacancy rate is under 2% because strict zoning and years of near-zero building choked new units. You can’t out-demand a shortage.

@unusual_whales Should be 12000$ at this point.

@unusual_whales Actually, there’s no need to be surprised. You’ll get used to it. There are also plenty of people who end up being the ones taken advantage of

@unusual_whales Breaking news: If that is too high for you there are other places you can live.

@unusual_whales The umbra of the Aug 12 eclipse misses North America, so it stays partial rather than total here. A near-miss can still be a headline if you frame the parts people actually get to see.

@unusual_whales The surge in Manhattan rents to an all-time high of $6,655 per month is truly astonishing and highlights the intense demand for housing in this iconic city, underscoring the need for innovative and sustainable solutions to address the affordability crisis!

VirtualBacon @virtualbacon · 230K

@unusual_whales Worth reading next to today CPI, where shelter came in below the headline rate. The national average and Manhattan are not the same market.

@unusual_whales I cant imagine how much pressure people living in Manhattan deal with, anyone here actually living in Manhattan care to share?

@unusual_whales If they only had a socialist mayor whose only stated priority was lowering rents and cost of living 🤣
