This matters well beyond $CNY. A stronger yuan eases China's imported inflation and gives the PBoC more room to support domestic demand without creating the same pressure on the currency. It also changes the global dollar story: if China is no longer leaning as heavily against yuan weakness, the broader demand for $USD can soften at the margin. For global macro, the yuan is becoming a signal of China's policy confidence not just a trade-weighted currency move.
@Barchart A stronger yuan can ease imported inflation in China and signal shifting capital flows across Asia
And i don't think so China celebrates it. Trade proficient boosts yan up with Bessent hints before trade negotiations that yuan could be stronger. But China based on internal proble with debt and real estate price decline needs to have a little bit weaker yuan. Adding to alarms that yen is weakening and to get benefits as China export competitors and center of the China capital outflow. China is going to go strong imho
@Barchart A currency move is not a victory speech. I want to know whether it reflects trade flows, rate expectations, intervention or weaker confidence elsewhere. Charts announce movement. Businesses still have to understand what changed underneath.
@Barchart The yuan’s strength marks a notable shift in currency markets as investors reassess China’s economic outlook.
