Recently sat with @deepakshenoy and @CalmInvestor to understand Capitalmind Mutual Fund’s Quant style of investing. When we think of an actively managed quant fund, it is less about actively picking stocks and more about actively managing the strategy. Within quant, 'momentum' is at the core of their strategy, something Capitalmind has already been following through their PMS strategies. But momentum has its weak periods too. When markets correct, it is uncomfortable to sit through the strategy. So while the mutual fund strategy continues to focus on momentum, they want to prefer stocks with lower volatility, too — stocks that have moved more steadily rather than swinging sharply up and down.
