not sure how a linguistics tweet made it onto my feed again but: presbyopia is a condition where eldely get blurry vision presbyopia = 老花眼, in chinese the three logograms means: 老(old, aged) 花(blurry, unfocused) 眼(vision, eye) logograms are fascinating..

@CL207 we did the same but we used greek words instead presbys = old man opia = eyes presbyopia = old man's eyes

@CL207 Mandarin medical terms hit different — 老花眼 is basically a three-character diagram of the condition. Makes Latin taxonomy feel abstract by comparison.
