@CL207 Old gold mines. The land there is very wet and used to have a lot of minerals. The miners come, dig a hole and it starts filling with water. In fact they need to constantly pump their mines out while in operation.

@CL207 some of these are probably designed retention ponds, some may be reshaped a little to better fit a development.
