I made a Mac podcast workflow that keeps the player you already use

I'm the developer of Feedcast. The question I kept running into was: can I prepare episodes on my Mac and still listen in my normal podcast app? Feedcast makes a personal RSS feed from your shows. It can transcribe episodes on-device, add chapters, and find sponsor sections to remove from your personal copy. I review the cuts before they apply, and the original remains available. You then add the feed to Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast, or another compatible player. The tradeoff is that the Mac serves the audio, so it needs to be awake and reachable when your phone downloads an episode. Feedcast needs macOS 26+. The basic app is free for three feeds; automation and unlimited feeds are premium. I made it for my own listening, and would love to know which part of this setup you'd want explained more clearly. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/feedcast-podcast-ad-blocker/id6773872767?mt=12

that "Remove Sponsors. Every Podcast. Every Player." tagline is bold, but the image showing MKBHD podcast is funny timing given he just did that whole sponsorship controversy thing last year the mac needing to stay awake for serving audio is the part i'd want explained more, like does it drain battery bad or is it fine if plugged in

Lol... you’re right. On the Mac staying awake: the feed listing goes online, there is no local option supported by most podcast players, but the audio streams from your Mac. So your Mac has to be awake and on the same network when your player fetches an episode. Once your player has downloaded the episode, the Mac can sleep and you can listen anywhere. In my case, i have a Macbook and normal usage lets my Podcast app download it no problem. Battery-wise, serving the audio costs almost nothing. It’s just sending a file over your local network, about like sharing a file in Finder. The heavier part is processing new episodes (transcribing), and that only runs once per episode. If you’re worried about it, there’s an “Only sync while plugged in” setting so that work only happens on power. On a desktop Mac you don’t need to think about it at all.
