I usually use Claude Desktop for Work and Code, and each session is in the appropriate Project. Old sessions are being archived by me(so I can search through them if I ever need that). I've never let that list grow much so I can't get lost into that

I couldn't be happier with my project system. I used folders on my computer for each domain that I work in, and I just number every chat session sequentially and talk to Claude in the current chat only for that project, because it always knows everything or can look it up. I start a new session in the folder-based project whenever I want and it picks up right where we left off. Keeps everything super tidy.

I used to categorize things into projects but I don't bother anymore. I organize all my notes in my wiki, so whenever I start a new chat and want to pass some context to Claude, I tell it to read a wiki entry. And when I finish a chat session and want to save context for next time, I tell it to summarize what we talked about in my wiki.

What finally worked for me was treating Projects as "long-lived context containers" and regular chats as disposable: anything I'd want to reference again starts in a Project with the background info in the project instructions, so I stop re-explaining myself. The gap is still that none of the assistants let you search message content or nest folders, so old one-off chats are basically gone once they scroll off. I use AI Toolbox for that part (disclosure: I work on it) since it adds folders/subfolders and full-text search across messages on Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok; free tier is 2 folders and 2 prompts, which is enough to see if the workflow fits before paying.
