I'm a student founder struggling with market research. Is there anyone willing to teach me how to do it properly?

Hey everyone! I'm a third-year Computer Science and Design student from India, and I'm trying to learn how to build a real software business. I've been working on SaaS ideas, and one thing I'm genuinely struggling with is market research and customer discovery. Everywhere I look, people say: Talk to potential customers. Validate your idea before building. Find your target audience. Build in public and grow a community. But as a beginner, I honestly don't know how to put these things into practice. How do I find the right people to talk to? How do I discover problems worth solving? How do I conduct customer interviews? How do I know whether a problem is worth building a product around? And how do I start building an audience when nobody knows me? I'm not looking for someone to validate my idea for me or give me a shortcut to success. I'd genuinely appreciate learning from someone who has done this before — perhaps a founder, indie hacker, product manager, or someone experienced in customer research. If you're willing to share your process, recommend practical resources, or even guide me through a small research exercise, I'd be extremely grateful. I'm willing to put in the work. I just need help understanding how to do the work properly. Thank you! 🙏

most of this stuff only makes sense once you actually start doing it, not before. pick one saas idea you have, find 5 people who might use it, just dm them in linkedin or wherever and ask about their current workflow, not about your product. you will learn more from 5 awkward conversations than from any course

Thanks bro! This actually makes a lot of sense. How do I find those first 5 people when I have no audience yet?

I'm working on AI-assisted SaaS products for business operations, covering marketing, sales, and customer support. These are all my area of interest to work on, not to start all at once but find out and build one product at once but before i get in I want a clear guidance in research and development so I could possibly learn, and build my startup

Start by joining communities where your potential users hang out and read their discussions to spot pain points. Try reaching out for casual chats rather than formal interviews at first. Tools like ParseStream can help track relevant conversations across platforms so you discover customer problems and chime in at the right moment.

Thanks! I'll start exploring relevant communities, identify recurring pain points, and reach out to potential users this week. I'll check out ParseStream too! 🙌
