How much to set aside for investment towards retirement vs permanent housing?

Looking into buying my 1st hdb resale and prices are on average 750K. I have not started the investment journey but want to do so. Have around 400k in savings and 0A combined. How should I start to figure out the max I should put into hdb without compromising on savings?

I’m sure there are many methods but I’ll just try to explain mine. Not sure if you are buying combined or single but my strategy was just to fund everything from OA, and not touch my liquid asset pool. From there you should have an idea how much of a cost you can afford. But this is my own strategy, there will be others that talk about accrued interest or OA is safe returns l etc. I understand the concepts behind these.

You dont have to complicate it? Lets say price is 750k. You can max loan 75%. So downpayment must be 187k with no grants. Lets round up. 200k. 200k minus your CPF OA (above 20k balance) Great. Now you need to save 200k (minus something) in n years. Divide this by (n*12) to roughly see your savings rate per month. If that is doable for you, the 400k (or whats left) can go invest after settling the rest of your short term goals and emergency funds. Tada

With your savings technically u can get a resale EC with stronger growth and better long term potential
