Should I keep Bitcoin in my Roth IRA

I wanted to get the opinion from this sub whether people believe it to be worth it to invest in a BTC ETF For reference I already keep my BTC in cold storage and do believe in self custody. And Overall I have about 10% of my portfolio in BTC. However if you believe that BTC will keep appreciating over time. Then it will be beneficial to buy the ETF so I can withdraw tax free eventually. I’m thinking of doing 80% in cold storage and 20% in ETF

What’s the case for bitcoin over something like VOO?

Higher risk but also higher potential reward meaning sheltering from capital gains taxes would be more beneficial to a BTC ETF than VOO potentially if it all pans out for BTC over the long term

You can nuke the entire US and Bitcoin will still exist

You already got it in cold storage, that's the smart move. The ETF part is just betting you gonna time the tax game right later. For me I keep my coins where I can touch them, not inside some fund paperwork

Yes. I hold IBIT and FBTC within my Roth IRA along with more traditional holdings and do this in combination with BTC self custody

If you believe in the investment and also understand that it goes down just as fast, then that's up to you. I personally keep my Roth IRA in more traditional methods as you are limited in how much you can add each year. VOO and Target Date are my only Roth IRA categories.

The tax free part is doing a lot of work in this plan. Roth cap is $7k a year, so an ETF sleeve you fund with new contributions is a rounding error next to your cold storage stack for a decade at least. And you can't move coins in kind, you'd sell, book the gain, then rebuy inside the Roth. Only genuine edge is that Section 1091 doesn't cover crypto, so you can dump coins at a loss and rebuy the ETF the same day without the wash sale.
