Jensen Huang: “We love PC gamers! We really do. Anyway hand over your 5090 silicon a data center just offered us the GDP of a small nation for it.”
  2. u/IfailAtSchool 5 1 day ago
To be fair the 5090 was never for the average gamer but i agree.

Eh don't pretend if you had a business selling an in demand product you wouldn't sell it to the highest paying customer. It's not a charity.
  4. u/diyandmc240 1 1 day ago
    I don’t need to pretend, I know I wouldn’t. Not everyone is self-serving

Agreed. Anthropic and open ai IPOs might not do so well with their losses and multip trillion valuations... But that won't "pop" a bubble. AI isn't going anywhere and anyone still saying it's useless or hallucinates like gpt 1 is delusional
  12. u/-Crash_Override- -8 1 day ago
Any hope that AI is a bubble or will pop is just copium at this point.

Over 1 trillion investment to make 70b a year, and need to start over every 5 years. You belong here.

    Short it then

Why, so I can get eaten alive by tweets and fake news?

Word. On one hand I want this crap to burn to crisp. On the other, I’ve enjoyed being able to plan my personal projects in ChatGPT and chuck it into cursor and have it spit out a working product. I also enjoy seeing my portfolio go up😂

The last FE drop I have seen was Best Buy in early February. This has basically been known. Sad cause the FE was the only reasonably priced 5090. Took me months to get mine.

I got one from that drop!

It says Nvidia hasn't confirmed or announced anything
  20. u/Competitive_Elk6560 1 1 day ago
nervous vibes are real, but just this round it’s mainly a leak that’s been circulating on some hardware forums. nobody on the NVIDIA team has stacked up a press release yet. that’s why some people are treating it like a joke, but it could also turn into the next wave of supply crunches if the GB202 dies keep getting roped into the PRO line. either way, keeping an eye on price listings over the next few weeks might tell if this is more than just a rumor swap.

they care so little about gamers. make way more repurposing these for AI cards
  23. u/scarletstring 1 1 day ago
I might be in the minority, but I think this is fine. The cost from a 5070 to a 5090 is unbelievable. To the point where I don’t think the average person can’t afford or needs a graphics card this intense
  24. u/DrB00 1 1 day ago
The performance difference is also unbelievable.
  25. u/scarletstring 1 1 day ago
You’re talking double the speed for 5x the price. Also, unless you’re maxing out every spec, then there’s no way you come close to utilizing the full value of a 5070 for gaming
  26. u/Prudent-Corgi3793 OP 1 1 day ago
An RTX 5070 is basically a toy because you can’t fit anything in 12 GB VRAM The RTX 5090 is the sweet spot if you are happy with running qwen3.8 27b, because it’s the cheapest GPU that allows you to run it at q4 or q6 with enough memory context to be useful and has the memory bandwidth and compute speed of the RTX PRO Blackwell versions. Not surprising that demand for this GPU took off after open weight models started to become useful.
  27. u/scarletstring 1 1 day ago
Does that mean the main use cases for this would be coding pertaining? I heard some mention of graphics cards of this quality being used to avoid token based usage but I think I’m missing something. Are you open to clarifying?
  28. u/jaraxel_arabani 1 1 day ago
So.... Basically proved Nvidia point in gamers dont need 5090. If the argument is running your own agent you are competing for hardware against hyperscalers. That said 5090 /is/ by far a much more powerful beast than 5080 so this move is a blow to the balls. Nvidia is cannibalizing explicitly their gamer base for revenue growth. I'll remember this, and why I stay with ati.. I mean amd GPU still
  29. u/Aubrey_D_Graham 1 1 day ago
Don't let the 5090 gatekeep Qwen. Those models can be ran on the Arc Battlemage series, R9700, and W7900.
  30. u/DimensionalFruit 1 1 day ago
    I have just get 3x 5070s tbh
  31. u/PS1Zurg 1 1 day ago
The average person doesn't even buy 5070s, the 50-60 range is where most pc gamers fall into.
  32. u/Low_Key_Trollin 1 1 day ago
You’re not considering what this’ll do to other cards prices

Just waiting for a Chinese company to swoop in and take the gamer/non data centre market share. Please.
  34. u/deadnerd51 2 1 day ago
People get upset or offended, as if Nvidia wasn’t a business. Businesses are here to make money. They aren’t loyal to anyone but the highest bidder. Anyone who says they would be happy selling a card to games at 1/20 what they can charge datacenters and ai businesses is lying to themselves. At the same time, no one needs a 5090. The 90 series of cards, like the titan class cards before, where for whales and absolute ballers, or production houses / small businesses on a budget.
