First, there are multiple indexes I assume you are talking about the sp500. The 20% figure just means that there are a lot of non SP500 stocks that do worse than the sp500. This is just an argument for large caps. Or there could be a lot of stocks that are only slightly lower than the sp500 gains and some real out performers. By definition a market cap weighted and percentage gain weighted stocks in the SP500 would be the same (because it would just be the index). I personally use a sp500 blend with internationals included and some stocks excluded. I manage the weighing my self. I have done better than the sp 500 over the long term and have beat it every year other than 2022. I would expect my portfolio to gain more in up years and lose more in down years.

This is stupid on so many levels and I’m mostly mad that I need to leave in 2 minutes and can’t.break down all the ways. But in short no, that’s a ridiculous timeline, even if you’re right you’d kill yourself on trading free, there are FAR more important factors to pay attention to, extrapolating individual stock picks from some vague generalizations is ridiculous, you completely miss the WHYS in all those numbers. Your individual stock picks are stupid. You completely miss the point of this sub. That’s all I have time for, I jsut didn’t want soem newby to stumble onto this post and think it at all resembled good advice
