Future of India

I’m growing increasingly pessimistic about our country’s future. Wars, protests, high inflation, expensive real estate, global debt, reservation, freebies, high bond yields and the most concerning factor – the impact of AI on jobs in India – are all contributing to this. I’m not factoring in infrastructure and civic issues because they’ve always been problematic. Do you think we’re headed for decades of no stock market return like we experienced from 1994 to 2004, or will we overcome these challenges relatively quickly? Every day brings new reasons to be pessimistic.

Kuch nahi hoga chill out, boom bust cycles come and go, don't personalise it. People have lived and survivedthrough wars and famines you will too. stop watching stuff in social media and focus on your skills. As far as market is concerned don't be leveraged, maintain allocations search for bright spots.

I would say ask yourself, with everything you mentioned do you think tata steel will stop making steels or Apollo hospital will stop taking patients or Sun Pharma will stop making drugs. Everything is a noice, nothing stops it is a cycle. Look at numbers and create judgement based on that.
  6. u/TomorrowSufficient61 3 1 day ago
What about Indian IT sector that is much bigger than both of the above mentioned industries combined, why conveniently leave that out?
  7. u/Witty_Neck_2651 1 1 day ago
Because I don't know even I am not sure about nasdaq. This AI such a new thing. It looks like an unknown sector to me now
  8. u/TomorrowSufficient61 5 1 day ago
Well I am a software dev and can tell you that nobody in the sector writes code by hand. Its ai generated, and people just overview the code and modify at times using ai(needs knowledge). Easily see a 30% reduction in workforce if this continues/accelerates
  9. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 2 1 day ago
True, this is what i fear AI won’t replace everyone but even if 20/30% people lose their job and no new job is created then we are in trouble and tbh American mnc(ofcourse for there own benefit) has done more good to indian middle class then our government.
  10. u/Witty_Neck_2651 1 1 day ago
I am also in IT brother. Let's no consider ourselves from future and say it will easily reduce this much percentage. I have seen a lot of things which AI can't do. So I am neutral is what I am saying and I will wait and watch from the sidelines.

Your approach to thinking is wrong. to be a good investor you need to be a skeptic. When in an environment of pessimism, the thought in your mind should always be "is this pessimism an overreaction, or not yet?" When at an extreme if you continue to think extreme you become part of the herd who fails to make money. Good investors spend time thinking about when the pendulum will swing back, not how far it will go, because the probability of it going further to the extreme is always decreasing.
  13. u/CurseNeverDyin 16 2 days ago
I'd say its 50-50. Half is algorithms rotting the brain. But the other is the reality that these things ARE happening, maybe not to the extent that you're thinking. AI IS a disruption. I think now its clear. Companies doing what I call "camouflaged layoffs". Not directly firing but consolidating workload using copilots etc. And this recent stock market fall that is yet to see a retracement since 9 weeks, IS an anomaly. This is not the nature of markets, they move in zig zag manner. Best thing we can do is take good investment decisions and be on the lookout.
  14. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 3 2 days ago
Your is the most sensible take AI is definitely scary and can easily take up 20/30% jobs, others folks in comments are overly bullish maybe they are bias and have huge investment in market.
  15. u/NikhilDoWhile 10 1 day ago
Anyone and everyone with opportunity to immigrate has already done so or trying to move and take their family out too. Those who don't have such options, should try to ignore all these issues as you will only damage your mental health.

Dude what is your source for high inflation in India? What is your comparison baseline for infrastructure, civics issues? Is high bond yields a problem for you?
  20. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
If you don’t know what high bond yield problem is then ask ai bot they will explain it better then me. Also, if you not feeling high inflation then you are just lucky and rich.
  21. u/AVNAIK 1 1 day ago
You seem to be only looking at few stocks you might have invested and going through a lot of social media noise impact and worrying. Regarding your reply on the inflation, I am neither lucky nor even close to r of rich. The current sub 5% inflation rate is nothing compared to historical double digit inflation rates.
  22. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
    You really trust government data?
  23. u/AVNAIK 0 1 day ago
    Whom do you trust?
  24. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
Definitely me, and if i compare to what i used to pay a year back it is increased by 20/30%. For example i used to buy amul protein blueberry shake and it used to cost 50 and noticed today it is 60 now which is 20% hike.
  25. u/AVNAIK 2 1 day ago
You seem to be an expert on inflation, I tip my hat and bow out! All the best
  26. u/AVNAIK 1 1 day ago
Are you aware of IMF? Hope you are checking from the right sources and not influenced by SM!
  27. u/aktheant 1 1 day ago
The 5% infation data is accurate for the poorest section of the society . See how inflation is calculated. The things a normal salaried person , lower middle class etc have to go through is very high from fuel prices , health insurance premiums , unaffordable housing , rent escalations are themselves more than 5% in tier 1. Now if you argue again that come to tier 2 / tier 3 still your premiums on things day to day are way higher. Would be in the tune of 7-8%
  28. u/AVNAIK 0 1 day ago
You seem to have too many assumptions and misinformation. Health insurance premiums have reduced after GST changes, know what to mention before arguing. Regarding rent escalations, you need to learn to negotiate.
  29. u/aktheant 1 1 day ago
Bruh ! GST on health insurance itself was a crime and see the premiums increase without gst the actual thing you are paying
  30. u/AVNAIK 0 1 day ago

None of this is new to India or to the world for that matter. Life goes on as it always has. Thinking about what could be will only add to the anxiety. Find a hobby. Go out for a jog, Play video games, Connect with your friends. Take life for what it is not what it could become. Enjoy the moment. This anxiety too shall pass.
  32. u/mpdcayman 0 1 day ago
That's precisely what the disrupting forces want you to think. If sufficient people get depressed, a critical mass is achieved which ultimately leads to a downward spiral. The truth may be far from what is apparent. One way to counter this is to do your bit. Do your work properly, achieve great outcomes. Imagine that each individual including yourself can make your country 1% better. Start small, grow big.

Current market situation is an anomaly based on my 20 years experience. Way too many things simultaneously happening all at the same time - all affecting India in a very negative way. Reasonable amount of it is also due to government incompetence - they misjudged America as a friend, increased taxes thinking the stock market boom will last forever, SIR is a perverse way to fuel social angst, E20 fiasco to help cian agro, giving away too much to Adani n Ambani.. never ending list. The worst crime though is the chest thumping of reaching 5 trillion USD economy. Absolutely basic blunder - Western governments will not want India to rise rapidly. When you know your prosperity is linked with exports to these countries, why won't you be more cautious beats me. Very basic error, now costing us severely.

I had 70% equities in indian markets now its 50% and trying to get it sub 30%. Just because I am indian does not mean I need to always invest here. Any passive index fund in US will beat it's counterpart in india sloely due to the USD INR boosting it by 1-2% additionally . And taking positions in gold.
  40. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
It’s 1/2% not for sure, maybe around 3/4% we are losing every year. Currency shows a country strength.

Your Worries are real worries. The real problem is AI. This AI destroyed Indian Share market and Jobs market. And this AI already badly effected in Indian market. This AI also distroyed USA market and it's results will be show in near future. All other problems are tiny issues. But the main problem is AI.

Which among these are not experienced by let's say Japan or Indonesia or any European country? Which among these were newly introduced in past decade and how to avoid it ? Unless you are saying that Indian consumption story has ended when the average indian age is less than 30. Definitely difficult time. To me oil is the problem India should find a solution and make tough decision. India should explore military solutions. Diplomatic solutions have run thier course. Oil producers want the oil to be above 100 at all costs.
  46. u/I-will-rule 1 1 day ago
What military solutions are you suggesting for oil?
  47. u/sayadrameez 1 1 day ago
Most likely yes, the issue is we are a low income economy and facing stagflation. Japan, Brazil, Russia,Italy ,Spain atleast were overall much richer. For me the biggest miss for Indian capitalists was to create a middle class, I am sure Indian capitalists have huge capital to build/sell most middle class products/services but whom will it to sell to ? I don't know if it was naive or a purposeful strategy but I see this as a big thing. eg. Ikea will be flooded in every country that I've been, Luxembourg ikea(technically across the border) makes more sale than Indian sales.

  52. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
That’s good but i believe in equality and equal treatment for all. Free coaching and education should be given but someone scoring less marks and given preference is unacceptable.
  53. u/Weekly_Apple_1803 1 1 day ago
Yeah but how will you stop upper caste interviewer preferring uipper caste apllicants only because thst why reservation was brought
  54. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
I hate even these upper and lower caste words, if Modi really want to resolve/reduce the issue then only 1st name should be mention in all the docs and then abolish reservation and only merit no diversity hiring shit etc, unless a person is physically disabled as they need our support.
  55. u/Weekly_Apple_1803 1 1 day ago
Before OBC reservation , obc certificate banwate the kya OBC hone ka yet tehyw ere not allowed to work as peon in govt office Rsservation si best solution for something which society believs in
  56. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
I don’t know what are you saying.
  57. u/Weekly_Apple_1803 1 1 day ago
Let me make it clear before Mnadal reservation, backward castes along with upper caste could get only unreserved seats. In interviews upper caste interviewers delieberatly gave high marrks to only upper caste applicants thus the backwards caste couldnt even secure peon job in govt office

I wish we had an economist like Dr Manmohan Singh as the PM instead of some proud chaiwala who seen doing bhajan and keertans instead of addressing this unprecedented economic crises at a war scale. Classic example of - " Aag lage basti me, hum apni masti me"
  67. u/Whole-Yogurtcloset27 OP 1 1 day ago
What can you expect from uneducated folks who only know how to do dramebazi and fool low iq people.
  68. u/AcceptableDispatcher 1 1 day ago
The problems you listed are real but a lost decade is not the base case yet when investment and private consumption are still moving this fast. Markets can still stay flat with a strong economy because valuations matter and bad policy can waste that growth. The shorter uncertainty is where moon fits because an up or down call around inflation rates or policy headlines does not require turning the whole country into one ten year bearish thesis
