Making light of Kamala turning a blind eye to genocide is not a good look.
  16. u/TraliBalzers 6 2 days ago
Cuz that's so much worse than Trump actively supporting that same genocide and everything else he's doing.
  17. u/lmnt-dev -5 2 days ago
She and Biden actively supported it, too, my friend, and at a time when it could have been shutdown and many lives could’ve been saved. Let’s just face the fact that these people are effectively on the same team as far as Israel and Palestine are concerned.
  18. u/No_Ampersand 4 2 days ago
Man, you're just a terrible person.
  19. u/lmnt-dev -2 2 days ago
If holding politicians accountable for aiding and abetting a genocide makes me a terrible person, I am quite terrible indeed.
  20. u/No_Ampersand 4 2 days ago
You're not holding anyone accountable, you're playing "both sides" for reasons.
  21. u/lmnt-dev 1 2 days ago
Yes, reasons being both sides are responsible for genocide. Maybe you could teach me how to be a good person and overlook this very inconvenient truth.
  22. u/No_Ampersand 1 2 days ago
Good people don't argue in bad faith. One side "supports genocide" by not actively fighting against it or enabling it, the other actively encourages, aids, and starts literal wars to further the genocide. They're not the same and purporting them to be the same makes you a bad person. You can't be close to God while being deceptive in this manner. The lesser of two evils is clearly a better option.
  23. u/lmnt-dev 0 2 days ago
Pretending that Biden’s state department wasn’t actively participating when it was delivering weapons to Israel is the same as “not actively fighting against it” and when Biden himself blatantly lied to the American public about beheaded babies is laughable. Do you not recall all of the resignations at the state department in protest? Or are you arguing in bad faith? Not close to God by your own logic.

Which of my “talking points” are right wing? In what way are they right wing? It shouldn’t be hard to make a case if you’re arguing in good faith. I’ll understand if you’d prefer to stick to ad hominem attacks though (the refuge of the weak).

How many Gazans did you save by not voting for Harris?
  31. u/TraliBalzers 1 2 days ago
I just don't understand the point of your comment. It sounds like you are saying there is no difference between her and Trump. And no one said she didn't do that. American politics is always choosing the lesser of two evils.
  32. u/lmnt-dev -1 2 days ago
On this very important issue, there is no meaningful difference. People didn’t vote for Kamala because of this issue, not because she has an annoying laugh.
  33. u/TraliBalzers 1 2 days ago
Do you not see how that is a pointless reason when you consider the alternative???
  34. u/lmnt-dev 1 2 days ago
If I have to vote for two people who both support genocide on any level, what is the point of voting? What am I voting for exactly? This was why she lost obviously.
  35. u/Stock-Gear412 1 2 days ago
Because not voting at all, or not voting for Kamala, got us where we are today with this circus show of an administration. But, congrats on standing your ground on the one horrible aspect of her platform. Even though, the rest of her platform was miles ahead of what we have now. So, applause, I guess? She lost because Biden waffled so long on running, and also because the majority of the actual voting U.S. public isn't really ready to elect a female president. Well, they did once but the electoral college F'd that up so, here we are.
  36. u/lmnt-dev 1 2 days ago
In matters of principle, stand like a rock. Win or lose. It’s important to have principles. We can’t be pragmatic when it comes to the topic of genocide. I seriously doubt her being a woman would have mattered if she had balls of steel. If she took a bold stance against Israel’s disgraceful behavior. I’m sorry she wasn’t able to do that because then Trump wouldn’t be in office. People of conscience aren’t responsible for his election and it’s quite disingenuous to suggest otherwise. Life is more than a team sport.
  37. u/TraliBalzers 1 2 days ago
Yeah okay because there is clearly only one issue to vote on. And there is no difference at all between her and the pedo rapist we currently have. You are so blind.
  38. u/lmnt-dev 1 2 days ago
You only speak this way because you are being affected by something, but compared to being slaughtered along with your whole family, it just ain’t that bad. Imagine being a small child surrounded on all sides by evil forces and there was no one who would hear your cries for help or stand up for you, even though you knew they could hear you and could speak up for you. Perhaps then you wouldn’t think about voting for the people who looked away. We are all blind in different ways.
  39. u/Cartz1337 1 2 days ago
IF THERE IS NO MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE ON THIS ISSUE THEN YOU SHOULD HAVE VOTED FOR HER ON ALL THE OTHER FUCKING ISSUES WHERE THERE WAS A MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCE.
  40. u/Cartz1337 1 2 days ago
Turning a blind eye to the murder of civilians, the destabilization of the entire western hegemony, the erosion of decades long alliances, the corruption, the blatant lying, the utter incompetence, the villainy, the treachery and the straight up pedophilia of the other candidate makes you look like a fucking moron.
  41. u/lmnt-dev 1 2 days ago
I don’t turn a blind eye. I didn’t vote for Trump. Wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he rigged the vote and it wouldn’t have mattered at all anyway, as much as these people project their intentions. I don’t make light of any of it or pretend like we’re in a better place. I’m not going to ignore a contribution to genocide by any party though. Sorry, it ain’t happening!

  53. u/Hysteria625 1 2 days ago
Because the only person who matters to Trump is Trump. People think they know what that means, but not really. Most people have limits to their behavior. They won’t attack certain groups, they won’t cross some moral line, or they have some sense of shame that lets them know when they go too far. Trump has none of those. Literally none. He will say or do anything to win, he will hurt people just to win, and you cannot trust him on anything. Worse, Trump has surrounded himself with people whose sole qualification is that they are loyal to him. There are a lot of things Trump could do. He could declare war on Blue States. He could have ICE start shooting everyone in blue cities. He could round up all Democratic congresspeople and ship them all to Uganda in the middle of the night. Hell, Trump could declare Congress unconstitutional, and the Supreme Court could just take its time to hear the case and strike down the emergency injunction against shuttering Congress. There is nothing he won’t do, so we need to be ready.

I’m not understanding this completely. The eligible kids are or are not getting $1000 USD put into a bank account? Is it $1000 “cash” or is it $1000 worth of stock, which sounds like it is, to give people a chance to offload bad investments and declare a loss? If it is stock and it’s being unloaded because of poor value, the $1000 may be and probably will be 1000 cents by the time these kids turn 18. Is that about right?

Read the article. It's stocks, and you aren't allowed to sell for 5 years. The other massive red flag, lit by a 2 billion watt beacon, accompanied by a eardrum bursting siren, is "donors may give stock grants to groups of at least 5,000 children in a given age bracket and region". It would be difficult to devise a program more prone to corruption at the benefit of the top 1%.
  84. u/whackwarrens 13 2 days ago
All true but simply look at how it gets taxed. It is a complete non starter to contribute to a fund for your children that will get taxed as regular income when you can just use any regular fund and get taxed as capital gains or a college fund that isn't taxed at all. Another scam for MAGA and other idiots who refuse to read and have blind trust in billionaire carpetbaggers.

I think the only bad part of this is the name Trump Stock. Otherwise it seems like you're just allowed to get started investing for your kid. Yeah, they may drop some garbage stock on you but just sell it immediately and drop it into VT if you want. Then contribute to their Roth IRA that you otherwise would have needed a 529 for before (which you can also contribute to). The trump account converts to a standard Roth at 18 right? Am I missing something?
  92. u/JoostvanderLeij 10 2 days ago
Not allowed to sell for 5 years.
  93. u/919jonathan919 6 2 days ago
You are missing entirely that the $$ deposited in it will be worthless stock that billionaires get to donate only because it will give them a tax break. You can't sell it for 5 years. The donated junk stock will continue to fall in price until it's worth noting. And you, as a taxpayer, will have successfully given a tax break to billionaires just by having the account.
  94. u/gthirst -1 2 days ago
I did not know they couldn't sell for 5 years. That is very dumb, but at least it's a vehicle for parents to invest early for their kids in another way. The default position is SPYM which is solid. Hopefully the next administration can revise this and close the billionaire donation option while keeping the good parts.
  95. u/AffordablePlant 1 2 days ago
If it was only index funds this wouldn’t be an issue. It’ll be individual company stock and they’ll “donate” it at a high value before it drops to maximize their tax write offs. The benefit of the account for an individual is wiped out by the loss of tax revenue for the country. This is just another way to give tax breaks to the rich while pretending to help the poor.
  96. u/gthirst 1 2 days ago
I see, so basically you get $1000 of SPYM and randomly get donated stocks from possibly failing companies/market manipulators? Yeah definitely a good idea turned evil that they can get buy in from parents. If you have one, it makes sense to invest in your kid and take advantage of it, but what y'all have explained is definitely insidious. Thanks for the explanation.
  97. u/Signal_Researcher01 5 2 days ago
No! It is, essentially, free money at the moment. The rub isnt so much that its money you dont obtain, but more to determine the real reason it might exist. This article and a few others suggesting that its primary purpose is to put a vast amount of wealth into the control of few people, and as a vehicle to dump shitty stocks for market manipulation
  98. u/gthirst 2 2 days ago
How would investing in SPYM do that though? It's the S&P 500
  99. u/Signal_Researcher01 1 2 days ago
The article suggests stocks can essentially be 'donated' to the funds. Allowing vast pools of stocks that might be about to plummet to be sent into a sort of safe zone while their previous owners write off the donation and the stocks are unable to be sold for 5 years, creating a sort of support system to ensure that there are some holders who will never sell no matter what the stock does. I think its one of those things where you cant summarize *all* the ways you can interact with the fund in a single paragraph, and some level of financial education (actual financial education) would be required to fully understand all the ways its existence could be leveraged.
  100. u/bensboring 1 2 days ago
\>Fund with tax dollars \>Trumps friends need exit liquidity from their failing company \>Use tax dollars to buy up stocks in the accounts \>Wealthy friends exit using tax payers funds, stocks drop leaving less for children Congrats we have found a new way to bail the wealthy out
  101. u/gthirst 1 2 days ago
I'm not sure how investing in VT or SPYM or other equities would accomplish that.

This would’ve been so easy to NOT fuck up. USA just celebrated 250. Create a fund with the top 250 USA-based companies and rebalance that list every \~2-5 years as needed. Just like DOGE the theory is great. The execution is shit.
  109. u/Cold_Toe_7540 4 2 days ago
Fed here. Not a huge deal but just FYI because it kinda grinds my gears when I hear it and I think it's becoming the prevailing thought with a lot of people: the DOGE plan was never a good idea. It was never a good idea because it was based on maybe not an outright lie but a false narrative. The narrative being that there is a ton of fat to be cut in the federal government. There really isn't. Federal work is in most cases more scrutinized than private industry, as it should be because it's your money and there should always be oversight. The real fat with the fed is almost entirely from contracting. Private industry getting public money. The DOGE plan from the beginning was to cut federal jobs, making it inherently nonsensical. There's no extra money to be found there. While obviously I don't know every single one of the jobs cut, I'd venture of the 300k people who lost their jobs I'd say I'm fairly familiar with the vast majority of the agencies and programs hit the hardest. I can tell you with the utmost confidence not a single one of those eliminated positions were redundant, wasteful, or unimportant. I've seen what these cuts look like up close and can assure you of two things: One, they're not saving you any money. All those job cuts combined, even factoting in healthcare and benefits, accounted for less than 0.5% of the total annual federal budget. For context, extending those tax cuts for the top bracket cost us almost 6x that amount and the war in Iran has already cost more than double the amount saved by said cuts. Two, you're much worse off now than you were two years ago... but you won't realize how much worse until there's a crisis. It will happen eventually, because it always does and if it happens prior to a leadership change people will wonder why we sucked so badly with our response to the crisis. While I can't predict the future, if there is a catastrophic failure at the federal level to an emergency, the answer will almost certainly be because of the DOGE cuts. DOGE was never about fiscal responsibility or streamlining the government. I couldn't tell you with certainty what it was *actually* about (some of us have theories, but that's all they are) but I can tell you saving taxpayer money was never part of it. DOGE was never about saving money.
  110. u/gacoug 1 2 days ago
Doge was executed exactly how they wanted to. That wasn't about saving money, that was about gutting programs they didn't like and fucking with federal workers since the workforce as a whole is left leaning. The saving money line was to get all his sheep to cheer them on while believing they were autually doing something.
  111. u/NealCaffreyx9 1 2 days ago
Hence “the theory was great” “the execution was shit” for the American people.
  112. u/scraejtp 1 2 days ago
? That is essentially what this is, except it is the top 500 companies. The default investment if essentially tracking the S&P500 with a very low expense ratio.
  113. u/redzombie_65 46 2 days ago
asked ai to re-word the article so my ADHD monkey brain can better understand. Heres what I got. Rich donors get a tax write-off based on today’s high price when they donate company stock to kids' savings accounts instead of selling it on the open market. Since the rules force families to hold those shares for five years without selling, the kids bear the loss if the stock crashes while the donors keep their huge tax break. In short, it lets wealthy insiders dump risky stock into locked accounts where children can't get rid of it.
  114. u/boredlady819 25 2 days ago
    That is so insanely fucked
  115. u/N_Associated 1 2 days ago
The fucked part is the gov trying to pass this off like it’s some major wealth building benefit when all it really sums up to is another way of shuffling money around and hedging their bets. It could basically be a government BAILOUT for the lucky few who can take depreciating stock and set em in these static accounts that can’t be touched, and the depreciation can be written off as a result of the next crisis that’ll be blamed on whoever.

"The kid bears the loss"? Are you kidding? The were GIVEN these stocks for FREE. They could go to zero and the kids STILL would have lost literally nothing. If you want to fix it, re-write the law so that the tax break is granted at the end of the lockup period based on the current price. Just be prepared for the billionaires to get even bigger tax breaks though, because most of these stocks are probably actually going to go UP and these people are just trying to find a way to make it look like giving kids stocks FOR FREE is a bad thing.

Yeah man, I'd be so mad if I got a bunch of free stock and the price went down. /s
  129. u/Sudden-Body2090 1 2 days ago
I think the point is that the tax benefit these would provide the donors allows wealthy individuals to continue to pay less in taxes without providing the normal value back to society. If I donated $1000 to a charity, they could use it and buy $1000 of whatever they need for the charity or spend it directly toward the thing the charity supports. The tax write off is directly tied to the value provided. If wealthy individuals can offload stock, they are getting the full tax benefit with no guarantee of providing commensurate value. Again, just my perspective of the concern.
  130. u/throwaway09234023322 1 2 days ago
They could already offload their stock to charity for tax writeoffs. There's really nothing concerning about the donation unless they are getting some sort of benefit from it outside of the tax writeoffs.
  131. u/CannaChemistry 1 2 days ago
I’d argue that them donating money directly the American citizens and circumventing government bureaucracy is providing wayyyy more value.
  132. u/danjayh 1 1 day ago
You are aware that donors could just donate the stock to a charity instead (and have always been able to do so) for the same tax benefit, and that the only thing that's changed is now they can give it to an individual newborn to help with their education? Oh, you weren't? Figured. SMH this thread is filled with completely financially illiterate people who have no idea how anything works and have never had to do a tax return more complicated than the 1040EZ in their lives.
  133. u/Horror_Swimming6192 1 2 days ago
You should be since its giving tax breaks to people who don't need anymore fucking tax breaks.
  134. u/throwaway09234023322 1 2 days ago
They could donate stocks and get tax writeoffs already. There is nothing special about this unless they are getting something else outside of the tax breaks.

What’s the difference between donating a billion dollars directly to citizens VS to the government? I’d argue directly to citizens is far superior. You could do it to if you want to. If you don’t like it, change the laws, crying about it won’t fix anything.

They are not being paid by taxes. This is donated stock.
  144. u/spock589 1 2 days ago
Stock is donated. Donator gets a tax break for said donation. Other taxpayers pay the lost tax revenue.
  145. u/danjayh 1 1 day ago
If, as the rest of the posters in this thread are screaming, the stocks are worth 0 and going to crash ... then the wealthy donors would get the same tax break when they realized the loss. The only difference would be that the donation never happened. IF, as is far more likely, the stocks perform in-line with the market on average ... then the wealthy donor gets the tax break for the donation (which they could already get by donating to a nonprofit, just not by donating to a newborn), and the kid has a nice gift for when they start higher education.

I mean yea if financially illiterate people think “great, now I am set for my kids college and I don’t need to do anything else” and it’s garbage.
  147. u/Stock-Gear412 1 2 days ago
So, wait, does that mean if an account goes into the negative because a stock tanks far enough, the account holder (children) will be responsible for that debt?
  148. u/T1gerAc3 1 2 days ago
I think it means the kids get the initial value, say $5000, but it's a junk stock, so after the 5 year lock up window ends, the stock might be worth $500, but the real benefit goes to the person dumping... I mean "donating"... the stock who gets tax benefits for the donation and can clear out large amounts of junk stock without negatively affecting that stocks price in the short term. They're effectively going to pump and dump junk stocks onto kids accounts.
  149. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
Genius, how exactly does giving away equity for free give economic benefit to the current owners…. There is no “pump and dump”. There is also no “junk stock”. These are stocks that are up 50-100% plus this year. This is literally CEOs giving away equity for nothing. Anyone can do this already and not pay taxes on it. There is no other scheme here.

Going to caveat this with the fact that I’m a CPA… You can’t argue with the unbelievable levels of stupidity in this thread. I can’t tell if these are bots or if these people are truly brain dead. Trying to make something bad out of a charitable deduction… The people donating aren’t gaining anything by doing this. The tax break they get is very small compared to the actual dollars they are giving away and is working as intended; it’s meant to provide some incentive for people to give to charity.
  151. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
It’s insane lol. These are either all bots or high school kids with blue hair who have never purchased a stock in their lives.

I’m reading through this thread to try and wrap my head around what the outrage is and I’m baffled too. Please, I beg of you (lol), can you explain what I’m possibly missing? Person owns “junk” stock worth $10 a share. They donate a share each to these child accounts. Now the kid has $10 worth of junk stock. 5 years later, it’s worth $1. I don’t understand what the scam is? Maybe I’m too educated (also a CPA) to see what the outrage is. The person could have sold at $10, but donated it.So they lose money. Kid gets $10 for free, and even if it tanks to $0 in the extreme it’s a net nothing… The only, only argument I can fathom is they get to claim a donation at $10 for a stock that maybe if they bulk sold would have only been bought at $2 a share. Which means their deduction benefit out weighs the actual dumped value, but that feels few and far between. As well as possible with normal charity donations anyways… And not at all what is being communicated by most people : any articles

You’re spot on. The entire narrative is being spun and counts on points that are mutually exclusive or have infinitesimally small likelihood. Our young, delusional, financially illiterate youth begs for redistribution of wealth from billionaires. Trump incentivizes it. They still find a way to bitch. I don’t even like Trump but this is such a win win for everyone involved, but most especially, children who would otherwise have no opportunity to partake in the immense wealth building opportunity asset owners have enjoyed.
  154. u/Bob-Rossi 2 1 day ago
Thanks, what I figured. Same boat, don’t like Trump really at all and would have changed a few things about this fund but won’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Even the “forced enrollment” is laughable outrage from the socialist leaning perspective I share with others. Auto enrollment has shown to be a great benefit to the financially illiterate in 401ks, for example. So reason to believe it’s worthwhile here.

Why would they give away stocks that are likely to go up as opposed to down?
  161. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
What a completely idiotic take. “Billionaires get a huge tax break” they’re literally giving up stock for free. There is no financial advantage to doing this. Taxed gains >>>>>>>> nothing. Are people really too dense to understand this? Not a trumper, but everyone bitches about billionaires and their enormous wealth concentration. This is literally a direct redistribution of wealth to lower class children and people are complaining about it
  162. u/PaintInfinite9167 1 2 days ago
How are you so confidently wrong? They get a huge tax write off to pay even less taxes then they normally do. Donating 100m to save 100m of taxes is worth it, especially if they just donate a shit company that's being propped up so they don't take the loss. How do you not understand what's happening?
  163. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
“Donating $100M to save $100M in taxes is worth it” Do you not realize the net of that transaction is zero dollars?? Paying taxes on a gain is always more beneficial than keeping no gain at all.
  164. u/definitivelynottake2 1 2 days ago
Look here. You sell 100k of your good company. Then you donate 50k of shit company. Now you get no tax on income to benefit the people and the people are left holding a fucking shit company for 5 years... This only benefits the rich and is a horrible way they can avoid taxes while seemingly good unless you acctually look at how this will be abused to offload worthless shit on bagholder kids while they pay no taxes.
  165. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
The people are literally getting the direct value of the stock you fucking idiot. Do you not realize that 100% of an equity value is more than 30% of the cap gains on an equity value???
  166. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
“Worthless shit” = some of the most valuable companies in the world. Do you not understand that the majority of these shares are being donated by founders and c suite? Are you insinuating they own more of “good” company stock than the billions they own in the companies they’ve founded or helped build? There is no practical reality that aligns with your scenario. This is net financial loss to the individuals donating stock, that is a fact.

This is a major simplification but if you donate $100m, you don’t save $100m worth of taxes. At best, you will save $37m (highest tax rate in the U.S. is 37%). Donations reduce your taxable income, they don’t reduce the tax you pay dollar for dollar. So in a best case scenario for the donor, the net effect of their action is still a loss of $67m. They aren’t gaming the system by doing this. Please explain why you think donating $100m gets you $100m of tax savings if you’re so confident.
  172. u/PaintInfinite9167 1 1 day ago
You sell 200m worth of a good stock, owe taxes/capital gains, whatever. You donate 100m of shitty stock you and your friends are gonna tank anyway, to make money. You now don't have to pay anything because you donated(yay, what a good person), and you even made money on it because you tanked it on purpose and made more money(more yays) I simplified it sure, change the numbers how you want Mr. Smarty pants. I'm sure you can figure it out
  173. u/fredfred547 1 1 day ago
Again, you’re factually incorrect. First of all, you pay tax on the gain, not the sale of stock, but let’s say you have $200m of long term capital gains. You would owe roughly 25% \* $200m gain so you would owe $50m. In this bizarre example, you are saying shitty and non-shitty stock which has no bearing on how much tax you pay. It’s irrelevant. That’s the fair market value of the stock, regardless of your opinion of it. So let’s say you donate $100m of whatever stock, this will reduce your total taxable income (the long term capital gain I mentioned above) from $200m to $100m. You still have a $100m gain, so you are paying $25m in taxes. But, you also just donated $100m worth of stock. So really you’re out $125m. So now, explain to me why paying $125m is preferable to paying $50m.
  174. u/PaintInfinite9167 1 1 day ago
You owe 100m capital gains, from selling whatever You donate inflated garbage stock that you can't unload without incurring more gains tax or fees. You instead get a refund/deductible, whatever You have now saved yourself from paying taxes because you donated enough to counter act it. You can now buy puts on the inflated stock you donated and let it fall to make more money.
  175. u/fredfred547 1 1 day ago
What taxes and fees are you talking about that would be greater than the capital gains tax you would pay?? If you owe $100m in capital gains, that means you would have to donate stock worth $400m to offset the $100m tax you would pay in capital gains. The obviously better solution is to just sell the stock and pay the 25% of capital gains. Even if all $400m was a gain, you would still walk away with $300m as opposed to giving up $400m in stock to save $100m in taxes. I don’t think you understand how our tax system works, so I’m not sure why you’re arguing with someone who’s job it is to do this. If it worked as you described, why don’t you try to do the same thing and see what happens?

  177. u/fredfred547 1 1 day ago
There’s no market manipulation. If you owe $2k in taxes, just donate enough to bring your tax liability to $0. What you’re suggesting is that you would somehow pay less by doing this.

But wait there’s more! additional caveats to these accounts 1. they are forcing every minor to have one whether they want to or not, so they can monitor and control things more than they currently do. 2. This forced creation involves changing forms at the hospitals instead of just the basic “get me social”. 3. You have to pay taxes on these accounts. So it removes tax for wealthy and puts onus on poorer recipients. 4. There’s criteria for how you can use it and deposit and withdraw and such. I forget all the details here but it wasn’t appealing. 5. I assume there are additional nefarious things to be done as well we have yet to discover. 6. Moving shares into these accounts means the the stocks float is actually lower than what would be stated because it’s not restricted by the company, but rather the account holding them. Also having shares unable to be sold props up stock. 7. Will the recipients have the right to vote on those locked shares?
  191. u/ContextFew721 -3 2 days ago
lol please explain to me this 1. In what world is giving someone for free “forcing” it upon them? In what scenario would it benefit someone to turn down a minimum of $1000? 3. When and how are you claiming they are being taxed, and is whatever scenario you are describing any different from what is already in place for any standard capital gain? I’ll wait

I FIREd in my mid 30's thanks to my investments, and specifically stocks. Thanks. We can't help you see how this will likely create millions of little bag holders. Current bag holders are incentivised to pass the bag to these kids, who are locked into holding for 5 years. The current bag holders get tax scratch equity, while the recipient accounts pay full tax on the realized gains. What fucking world are you living in bud
  195. u/ContextFew721 2 1 day ago
So let’s just get this straight. You are saying at the same time: A. The stocks are going to go down, hence the incentive to dump for FREE B. The children receiving stocks are stuck with a tax bill, which will only happen if the stock appreciates past the price it was gifted at Both cannot be true at the same time. This entire narrative has no basis in reality. You dumb fucks hate Trump so much that you’re looking a gift horse in the mouth
  196. u/Dr_Finnlayson 0 1 day ago
You're still looking at it wrong. You're behaving as if I'm claiming the accounts are going to have naked shorts or something dumped into them. MY point is the stocks dumped into these accounts will always be meaningless. They are a way for people to exit pump n dumps before they crash. Recipient accounts likely will never see any value, and of course in the off chance they do- they're going to be taxed on their cap gains. The rich don't pay taxes, but the poors do. Again.
  197. u/ContextFew721 0 1 day ago
Given that your account is a month old you’re clearly a bot, but yeah your argument again has absolutely no basis in reality or logic. Let’s look at the people who have donated - the Dell family….. Gwynne Shotwell…. Literally CEOs or C suite to the companies they are donating stock of. Your insane conspiracy theory is that these people are so sure the companies they literally RUN are going to go to pennies that they would give up their stock for FREE to avoid incremental tax. Do you not think Shotwell could leave SpaceX and start at literally any other company in the world if she was so sure it was going to collapse? You are completely delusional. These companies are all on monster runs, and if they actually believed prices have peaked, they would be selling and leaving, not donating and giving up equity for free And to your last point - again- you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Even if these stocks halve in their ownership, the recipient is getting money for free. That is a fact. The only scenario in which the “poor” pay taxes on these gifts is if they appreciate in value…. And in that case… that’s a very good problem to have. If it does happen, the entire dumping narrative you have so mindlessly laid out would not have materialized.
  198. u/Dr_Finnlayson 1 1 day ago
LMFAO I'm the bot, but you use and LLM to choke up that entire response and then some nonsense summary falls off your keyboard in the final paragraph. Cool dawg. Enjoy deepthroating your master! Enjoy those Trump accounts 🤣🤣🤣
  199. u/ContextFew721 1 1 day ago
Feel free to respond with literally any degree of substance…. But you know you cannot, can you? Your entire narrative has no basis in reality, you just hate Trump (or more likely, you’re a Chinese bot)
  200. u/Dr_Finnlayson 1 1 day ago
lmfao this sounds like an excellent program for you to enroll your kids into!
  201. u/danjayh 1 1 day ago
I mean, if you're going to exit a pump n dump before the crash, why wouldn't you just sell it and get the gain instead of whatever piddly tax deduction you're going to get. For the tax deduction to win, you'd have to donate it when it was worth 5x whatever you could have achieved as the average selling price. Seems like that'd be an incredibly rare thing.
  202. u/L4dyGr4y 1 1 day ago
If you are wealthy and donate a certain amount of money or stocks, they become a tax write off. Dell gives 20 million worth of stock to accounts. They get that money back from government. Stock has been artificially inflated and now goes down to 1 million. Who looses?
  203. u/ContextFew721 1 1 day ago
    A. The tax benefit would never financially net more than simply selling the shares at all time highs. I am amazed that people cannot understand this B. There is no scenario, and I mean literally no scenario, in which these companies fall 95%. That is almost unprecedented in the history of modern markets. These are not “pets.com” C. If Dell and Shotwell believed their companies were at some point going to implode, they would de risk much more than simply donating some shares. They would be selling en masse. Shotwell would be leaving for another F500. D. Even in your absurd fantasy, it’s still money in the accounts of children that would otherwise have nothing
  204. u/L4dyGr4y 1 1 day ago
    A. They have to hold the stocks for five years. B. 2008 C. If you sell en masse, you guarantee a crash. This is a classic ponzie scheme. D. But the rich profit and we pay for it.
  205. u/ContextFew721 1 1 day ago
    A. Completely irrelevant B,C, and D. The amounts they are donating are pennies compared to the stock they still own. If they thought a crash was imminent, they would be cashing out their gains, not giving them up. It’s also not enough to meaningfully move markets. If anything, giving stock to people who are likely to need cash causes risk for a surplus liquidity event after the 5 year lock up. Just accept that this is a win win and move on. You’re grasping at straws.
  206. u/amerricka369 1 1 day ago
Your opening an account in someone’s name without their permission. If they want the “free” money or the account, they would’ve signed up on their own. That’s forcing it. He’s also going to do the same for all minors soon. No one trusts it which is why he is resorting to automatically opening and changing hospital forms. For the taxes and rules associated with it, I said I couldn’t recall specifics since it wasn’t worth my time reading into it. I recall it being like an IRA where you are taxed on anything withdrawn or it was taxed normal way in which you can’t pull out interest or dividends but still pay tax on it. It also creates scenario where folks who don’t want to claim it and don’t file taxes with it and are now in a technical breach of IRS rule. Either way, billionaire gets write off to reduce tax and doesn’t pay tax on his gains accumulated (double benefit) while regular fees folks pay taxes (whatever the mechanism).

You are so immensely dull Sign me up as someone who would willfully be “forced” to receive $1k in a free retirement account. There is nothing unique about the tax implications for this account, for the recipient or the donor.
  209. u/amerricka369 1 1 day ago
If you’re so into free stuff, I’ll sign you up for that free Nigerian princes money and credit cards and other stuff too. Nothing can ever go wrong because you got something free. Every single government benefit requires you to sign up for it, not have it opened automatically. Additionally there are laws on the books that require parental consent for EVERYTHING opened for a minor. They are dodging both of those. Regardless of the rules on how it is taxed, they are being taxed while the rich is dodging tax. Even if both are standard, it doesn’t make it right. The rich should be taxed on the appreciation and get it offset by the gift (not receiving a double benefit). Again, you are missing the main point that there are many other factors that feed into a free account. Receiving the money or donating money isn’t the problem.
  210. u/ContextFew721 -1 1 day ago

Your AI is ignoring the fact that if the donors had kept the stock, they'd have been better off because A), they could write off any loss, and B), they'd get whatever the stock was still worth when they sold it. Net-net, they'd be ahead. The difference here is that if they donate the stock, they get to write it off (which they'd have gotten to do anyway if it went to 0), BUT ... the kid now has a stock that might be worth something in 5 years. Free money. Seems like a win-win to me ... although there is the slight possibility of it being a loss to whoever donated the stock.

  218. u/Kdarr12 1 2 days ago
On top of this, you have to download an official government app to access your child’s Trump Accounts. Somebody is profiting off the app permissions and data harvesting. The surveillance state sure is.

If you open one just to get $1000 and invest nothing more, does it matter up or down? It was free to begin
  220. u/Own_Candidate9553 0 2 days ago
Rich people were able to dump stock into those accounts and get a tax write off as if it was a donation. You won't be able to sell any of the stock for 5 years, and pay tax on any gains. I'd personally rather not support this nonsense, but you're right that it's no money out of your pocket if you want to.
  221. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
Guess what dumbass, anyone can give up their stock for free and not pay taxes on it. Do you not understand that paying taxes on a huge gain still has significant financial upside vs literally giving your positions away? This is LITERALLY FREE MONEY FOR KIDS

You are the kind of person who would write a bill saying every kid gets $100, but every adult gets explosive diarrhea for life, and then say everyone who votes it down is voting down free money for kids. You can’t frame everything around the best case scenarios when it’s only a small part of the big picture.

It's not free money for kids. The government gets money by taxing citizens.
  226. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
So to be clear, you think it is better that 30% of the capital gain on these shares in the hands of our govt is better than 100% of the total value of these shares being owned by children from low income environments that would likely otherwise not have the means to save for retirement or participate in the gains we are seeing in the capital markets?
  227. u/JamesLahey08 1 2 days ago
Holy run-on sentence batman! The US government is $40,000,000,000,000 in debt. Adding more debt by giving money to the rapist presidents shitty companies is not a good move in any regard.
  228. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
Except it’s not giving money to any company,It is literally just a donation. The lost capital gain on these sales has no statistically significant impact on the deficit, even a wealth tax on the owners total net worths would not.

  241. u/IcarusPrime1 1 2 days ago
Is it because each account is funded with tax payer dollars (ok with me) but then these corporations are taking that money in return for their bad stock and so just using these accounts as another vehicle to distribute wealth to the top?
  242. u/DesperateSteak6628 1 2 days ago
It is basically you paying for the short. It’s subprime all over again and these kids will get peanuts, the initial kick off (like Dell’s) will be a tax write off and parents will put money that will be in the wallets of billionaires and worth nothing when the kids will need them
  243. u/artbystorms 1 2 days ago
"the Trump administration now allows wealthy donors to stock Trump Accounts with shares of individual companies, which families have no way to turn down." It's basically using kids as a passthrough for the government to give more money to corporations through purchasing their stock. What's to stop a company from lobbying Trump or a future president to have the kid accounts buy their stock in exchange for some favor? It's corruption pure and simple. Kids receiving an account that is invested in the total market or S&P isn't bad, because they benefit from the broad market growth. Kids receiving a government provided account that has TSLA, SPCX, Dell, Intel, and NVDA is corrupt and sus as hell.

  245. u/Real-Document-6577 1 2 days ago
Because it’s the commission organ of some sort being made by third parties that are setting this up. I can believe for ever $0.05 cents gained on an invest $0.50 is being made by those who file the funding. It’s also an attempt to pivot away from SS and utilize markets as a retirement fund for the general population…also disproportionately making the wealthy wealthier. They are getting a bigger cut that you are. So you’ll have a whopping $80K at retirement. The 1% will have made millions

The difference between the stock level now and in future after the rug pull, aggregated from all accounts, will be created money that sequesters buying power from the future through inflation. We are suspending capital gains tax today, to sell a stock that wont be worth shit when the kids can access it.

I don’t get it. Rich people donate billions to underprivileged people, directly, instead of paying taxes and you have a problem with it. But if rich people pay billions to the US government, who then fucks around with it and cents on the dollar makes it way to underprivileged, while the systems the government made are still in place and fucked, you’re A Ok with it??? I got this! I read the article and I actually understand it.   These stocks are overvalued and overpriced right now (think “bubble”). Imagine I’m a rich fucking asshole, and I would love to save some money on my taxes…so I make a donation of “stock grants” to children, and I get to write off every penny.  A short time later, the price will drop, but I still get to write off the original donated price on my taxes.   Meanwhile, the gift is worth much less than it was when it was given.    Now I still have some of the stock so I don’t want it to go down all the way. How does that happen? People sell.  How can I prevent that? I will make it impossible- legally speaking for these gifts to be sold for a minimum of 5 years.

  275. u/vetruviusdeshotacon 1 2 days ago
Its automatically created. Theres nothing you can do. The money theyre stealing from you is through inflation. Buy as many assets as you can that move with inflation. Every dollar of lost cap gains tax revenue due to this scheme will simply be created instead. If they get 1 trillion in tax breaks, 1 trillion will be created in lieu of that tax money and buying power gets sucked out of the us dollar
  276. u/BeefCakeBilly 1 2 days ago

  277. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
There are so many absolute idiots in this thread. Look at your own brokerage account. You have two options: 1. Give up your equity and gains for free. 2. Sell your equity and pay 30% on the gains. Which would you rather do? Do you people not understand that a tax write off on a donation is still forfeiting an enormous amount of money?? Oh that’s right, the people complaining about this don’t actually invest. Half of them are still in high school.
  278. u/vetruviusdeshotacon 1 2 days ago
own a ton of stock in spaceAIthropen inc.
it ipos at 50x fair value with a tiny float, and nasdaq changes its rules to auto include it causing pension funds to provide a proce floor.
dump all your stock in the "2.5 trillion dollar" company
use that tax credit to sell your actual assets tax free
Dont you understand whats going on? Not only can they dump it all and get a tax crefit, but the recipient cant sell. If 100% of spacex stock holders did this, the price doesnt go down because there will be 0 shares to sell. Then they unload real assets later. The FULL value of any dogshit overvalued scam stock can be used and it doesnt cause downward pressure on the stock, in fact it creates upward pressure (until 5 years have passed). Every dollar of the mega ipo companies market caps at wildly ridiculous valuations can be sucked out as tax credits and the gov willsimply create new money in lieu of the cap gains tax revenue they wouldve gotten. This is what it looks like when they know AI wont pan out but need to get out.
  279. u/ContextFew721 1 2 days ago
You’re writing all of this without understanding the basic principle that paying taxes on a gain ALWAYS leaves you with a higher net result than avoiding incremental taxes by giving up the underlying equity. There is absolutely no scenario in which donating stock leaves owners with a better net result. Your little counter factual fantasy scenario about donating equity to reduce volatility has absolutely no basis in reality. If stock owners are worried about long term price stability, they’ll just dump immediately - because if they don’t, the underlying stock they’re left with will have no value when they do go to sell. The fact that the majority of these individuals are founders or c suite and still own billions in equity should tell you a bit about what they truly think the future value of the stock will be. Yes there is a tax benefit to donating stock. That is already true. It is true for you as well, not just for billionaires. There is nothing unique about this system, other than the fact that it gives a vehicle and incentive for individuals to donate their stock to a specific cause, which in this case is literally American children
