How shall I deploy 1M?

**Hi SGFi community,** **I would appreciate some feedback on our family’s investment & retirement plan** 42, Singapore resident, planning to retire around 55 (or potentially as early as 45). Happily married with a 12-year-old son. **Financials** Target retirement spending: **250k/year** (includes \~SGD 90k/year education costs) Family after-tax income: **500–600k/year**, savings rate \~40% Investable assets: **8.3M after mortgage repayment**, excluding CPF Combined CPF: 1M Mortgage: **1.3M** at 1.6% fixed for 3 years Emergency fund: 1.5 years of expenses Commercial annuity: 500/month from 60 **Current investable allocation** 60% equities 25% fixed income 10% CPF 5% cash Equities are mainly in VALL held through IBKR Singapore. Fixed income includes **14% VDST (\~USD 1M)** and an 11% TIPS ladder. **Questions** **1. What should I do with the \~$1M in VDST?** Considering: $240k DCA into equities over 12 months $330k into TIPS if yields reach 3% Remaining \~$510k held as dry powder and gradually invested into **VALL** on market declines (3%, 6%, 10%, etc., up to 40%). Is this sensible, or would a simpler immediate allocation be better? **2. Retirement** Would my assets support **SGD 250k/year** spending if I retire at 45–55, assuming roughly a **3% withdrawal rate**, with CPF income starting at 65? **3. US estate tax / broker** I hold Ireland/Luxembourg UCITS ETFs through **IBKR Singapore** (cash usually <USD 60k). Is there any meaningful estate-tax or custody advantage to moving the portfolio to **Standard Chartered Singapore** at retirement? Its trading cost (\~0.2%) is much higher than IBKR and cumbersome to trade. Any other issues with my plan that I’m overlooking? Thanks!

Little bit confused with all that you’re saying, but if you have $8.3m in VWRA equivalents, should be fine to support $250k a year at 3% SWR.

Why DCA? Lump sum into VWRA or VALL.

I’m sorry to OP in advance as I’m not helping. However I wonder why some people can have such insane assets (at least from my perspective). I thought I was doing ok until someone comes with 8mio investable assets and 500k income. lol

    1. Why do you want to itchy hands and switch something up? Why not leave it in VDST? Safe Withdrawal Rate modeling base case is usually 50-50 stocks-bonds or 60-40 stocks bonds. Why increase your equities allocation now when you can comfortably reach your target ahead of time? 2. Errr 250k/0.03 = 8.33M, and you say you already have that, though you have 1.3M left in mortgage. You work another year or 2, and you will probably reach 8.33M even after mentally off the mortgage in full for the purpose of calculation. Plus the CPF is an extra buffer. You are just here for validation? Also, you have hugely over-estimated by including the 90k education cost, which presumably will stop once your kid graduates, as part of your ongoing expenditure for FI planning purpose. 3. Nope. Other issues: You say that you are a Singapore resident, but your 90k/year education expenditure suggests that you are paying international school fees. Will you actually stay in Singapore after retiring? Everything changes if you move to another country, in terms of living expenses as well as possible capital gains tax.
