You need qualifying sales to unlock PA-API and current prices to get the sales. How did you get through that window?
I run an Amazon affiliate site in the watch niche and hit this early. API access opens after qualifying sales, and the sales are the part that depends on the page showing a current price and an honest stock state. The API turns up right after you have already had to solve the thing it was for.
What I ended up doing was reading the product page on a schedule and writing the result into my own price table. Templates render from that table, nothing calls out at request time. It sits at about 2559 refreshes a week across three Amazon markets, roughly 983 US links, 958 UK and 965 DE, over 975 products.
**What caught me off guard**
Stock state mattered more to me than price precision. I would rather show a price that is two dollars behind than a listing that went unavailable and is still sitting there with a buy button on it.
Drift is per market, not per product. The same watch goes unavailable in DE while US and UK are both fine, so one check per product would have been wrong for two thirds of my links.
Most of the actual work sits in the failure path. Keeping the last known price with a visible timestamp beat pulling the product off the page, because products appearing and vanishing churns the layout and the internal linking more than an old price does.
The piece I am still tuning is cadence. Daily is more than some products need, weekly is too slow on anything that gets discounted, and I have not found a signal that tells me which is which before the fact.
For anyone who came through the same window, what did you run before API access opened, and how did you land on a refresh interval?
