2 years, Nifty almost flat. FM still acts like it's a success story.

Every comparable asian market ran away. Indians exist to make other rich, it is by design. Even government doesnt have any intentions at all. All old farts whose one feet is in grave and will behave like they are doing a favour by working. This is truly shameful.

Lekin bhai...jab ECI ho saath to bipee ko darne ki kya baat?
  5. u/robininfinities 1 12 hours ago
I don't think EVM's work as opposition claims. Else BJP would rule entire India, look at South India, BJP has no existence there. Sure they can use ECI to get some favors nothing more.
  6. u/abhijithekv 1 12 hours ago
Where did he mention anything about EVM? Time for you to Google what delimitation is. That's the small "favour" ECI can do.
  7. u/robininfinities 1 12 hours ago
Where did he mention anything about EVM?
I assumed because, mostly who don't aligned with BJP government think EVMs are manipulated.
That's the small "favour" ECI can do.
ECI can do whatever they want, but if people can rise above race, cast, religion, no power can stop people's mandate. Don't look further, see what happened in Jantar Mantar.

Some people believe everything politicians say.
  9. u/robininfinities 1 12 hours ago
People should question everything a politician says no matter they are in power or in opposition.
  10. u/green_tomato_69 1 12 hours ago
South is safe because people there know what truly matters when electing a govt. Majority of india (central and north east) have no clue which govt to choose. So their choices are easily swayed by ₹500 or a bottle of alcohol or a plate of mutton-chawal. If that doesn't work then you have corrupt govt workers working with the govt to tamper with EVMs on election days. And since last term ECI has also sided with this govt as well. EVMs are not a sure thing but having ECI on your side definitely is, especially when they're given the power to remove any and all names from voter lists and most importantly the recent passing of a law in parliament which basically makes ECI above any and all jurisdictions...

She has the longest tenure as a Finance Minister of India. Dude 7 years and counting, India needs a new better FM now
  15. u/tocra 1 10 hours ago
Yeah but Modi needs a tax leach much more. She’s done her job well by boosting corporate profits and indirect taxes. That was the brief. She succeeded. And she also comes up with horrible justifications for her work which keeps the pressure off Modi’s PMO who is actually responsible for this behind the scenes.
  16. u/_OnGuard 1 12 hours ago
Why do you think that is?
  17. u/1011010010001001101 1 12 hours ago
She is just a face. The real power rests with the PMO and Babus who think stock markets generate easy money
  18. u/Efficient-Rooster180 1 12 hours ago
I’ll be honest. I still think the nifty would have been 21,000 today. I don’t know how it’s around 24 and 23,000. And what sort of manipulation she is pulling off, but I really think our stock market does not have good products. Good results and overall not good growth. It’s just that the manipulation is so strong in the market that it feels like we are moving
  19. u/HardMarginSVM 1 12 hours ago
Market is held because companies are still giving you profit growth of 12.8%. It is being countered by record lows of IT and banking stocks and an all time high US treasury bond yields.
  20. u/Less_Statistician359 1 12 hours ago
In FMs eyes, she is the best thing that has happened to our finance ministry since independence. Also, BJP takes all the right decisions. Over the years, I have tolerated and given benefit of doubt to her on various things. But it breached my threshold when she said “rupiah theek chal raha hai”. I don’t think she understands how important it is for an economy of our size to make our currency attractive and reduce inflation, which ultimately supports currency and makes livelihood easier for poor. It’s the real growth that matters, not nominal. You could grow at 20% but if inflation is 18%, that’s still just 2% real growth - worse than many western economies.

Had an opportunity to work on a paper for an industrial consulting client from Germany. Damn, the techonology used in German, US and Chinese companies really made me open my mouth in awe. We are good for fighting on the basis of religion, caste and language. And also live in the past glorifying that shit.

Rupees Depreciation because of tariffs and US-Iran war which is putting pressure on rupees and oil prices going high The 2024 bull market which gave 55% return( correct me if I'm wrong). In bull market phase the valuation of companies reached very high I think and now the valuations have cooled down and profits and revenue have increased. FIIS chasing AI stocks which of course india doesn't have(looking at both government and people of India) which caused outflows of FII money. FIIS went to korean market and Taiwan market which have much better AI exposure. This is me personally predicting soon in 1-2 years there will be a massive crash coming in all markets.

there's zero confidence in the market. only external factors like tariffs, wars ect are moving the indexes temporarily.
  41. u/Cress-Used 1 10 hours ago
War, crude oil prices, and tariffs are some of the major factors that can reduce confidence in the stock market. I don't know how, according to you, these are just "temporary movements." 😂

Though I hate her for many reasons, stock market return cannot be the one. If you are blaming her for last 2 years, would you also give her credit for market returns from 2021 to 24, where market grew close to 3x in 4 years?
  43. u/HAHAHA-Idiot 1 11 hours ago
Unless you're cherry-picking numbers, the market grew 2x from 2019 to 2024. There was no 3x.
  44. u/vishwesh_shetty 1 11 hours ago
Cherrypicking would be covid lowest of 7500 to 26300, 3.5x The original post also cherry picks 2 years which has see AI disruption

Well market has faced ups and downs. If a market continues going up then something is wrong. It was 12k feb 2020, went down to 7.5k due to lockdown and jumped to 25k, making the highest returns ever in its history. Even know, despite strong resistance it has managed to linger around 24k. This sudden growth meant that our markets became overvalued, and it is likely to stay so this FY. The yoy profit growth of nifty50 companies was 12.3%. The nifty remained stagnant because the steep fall in IT shares due to AI and banking shares due to compliance. We are completely dependent on crude import and the west Asia crisis has depreciated our currency, which also affected the returns. US Treasuries also posted highest yield and investors have shifted to safer options. The fact that nifty held itself around current level and didn’t crash to 20k is quite surprising in itself. Look at KSE. The only reason it is going up is because of the favours their economy is receiving from US. They were so low because they were defaulting on debt and Saudi rescued them in exchange of military protection. They also posted inflation of \~38% and a stability crisis which crashed their PE to 3. What you are seeing in these small markets is same as India’s 2021 COVID recovery. All the markets that have reached new highs are either due to AI+realted infra or it is just because they have shown recovery from economic crisis.

but when the markets were booming people on reddit told that stock markets are not a good indicator of the overall economy health

Why only Taiji, All BJP MPs/MLAs are same. They never accept their incompetence and blame either the previous govt or Nehru. 14 yrs in power still waiting for the acche din.

It has nothing to do with Nirmala as much I hate her. This is normal market behaviour. After the big rise in 2021 through 2023, there was a huge influx on post covid new investors. Markets don't give a free ride to anyone so this 2 year sideways grind is to throw out some of the new investors who got in on the gravy train and this grinding will continue until it has met its target of how many ppl to throw out. Once that's done, it will resume the upward trajectory. Yes govt absolutely must have removed LTCG and other taxes but that only has a minor role in the current market situation.
  53. u/MrHumanist 1 11 hours ago
In dollar terms nifty has given -25% loss. That's why FII left the nation. Anyways, government is only interested in raising taxes and rest are ram bharose. When sri ram's money is looted, there is no one to put your trust on.

Left ecosystem clown. There are more than 7500 stocks listed in India If you simply have tunnel vision for 50 stocks, then you can't be helped. Stealthily there are many midcaps and small caps that have doubled since April 2026. Don't worry, 95% of the Indian population does not invest in stocks, so they will vote BJP again. Now run along and worship your God pappu

  64. u/Lil_Nap 1 10 hours ago
Btw Largecaps are still hovering around their 5Y median in terms of valuations, so the larger reason for flattish returns are flattish earnings from the companies. While blaming STT, LTCG, STCG is fair, I think a larger question should be raised beyong FM and ask government as to why their policies are restrictive in terms of ease of business. Petroleum ministry has a decade yet to resolve energy issue yet our dependence on CNG and Crude Import increased every year. When Hormuz crisis arrived, so many industries be it F&B to even construction suffered from rising cost and short supply. This is just one factor. Also the blame should go to Private companies upto an extent, Indian IT service companys over the years enjoyed labour cost arbitrage but instead of investing into product, they decided to do buybacks and dividends.

India's cities make 60% of the country's GDP and raise 0.6% of the tax to run it. The Sixteenth Finance Commission just sent ₹3.6 lakh crore to fix that; gated on conditions most municipalities can't yet meet. Their ain't much attractive in India's trajectory for foreign investors to invest. We are yet again behind the AI boom and have missed the train. Our cheap tech labour is no longer attractive for the western Overlords and service export has halved. We also missed the manufacturing scarps which the chinese sanctions created, those were consumed by vietnam and other SEA countries. Ever ask yourself, what does india produce which the foreign consumer wants ? Nothing, absolutely nothing. FII share in the equity market is at an all time low, it is a cycle and our equity boom is over for now.
