Value stocks recent picks Comcast/Ford

(3 weeks ago - 2 weeks ago) Got in 8/28 calls 23 strike for like 100$ before it dipped to 21.50s for that one day bought more for like 45$ on Comcast at 23.50 sold 24.40 made like 80% \-could go to 27 but I think it will probably dip sooner or later again. (Low pe ratio high fcf margin lowish debt and attractive dividend made me think a small rally was possible) (This week - now) got into Ford at 13.76 yesterday before dividend 9/4 13.50 60$. (also bought 8/21 for 19-22$ sold at 36$) Made 45% at 14.15 today sold 70% of calls but might renter around 13.80s shooting for 14.40 at least but not as risky just in case it is going to go back into that down trend could go to 15/16. (In 2021s last time Ford was 14$ it had 6x less revenue then current 2026 revenue. net profit is larger then 2021s revenue + share buybacks. make me think 14$ is a holdable zone with good reason to be testing resistance.) I am looking for similar stuff lmk what you got.

I feel like options and value investing are inherently at odds. The whole thesis of value investing is being right based on cash flow and intrinsic value... Eventually. Options need to be right... By X date.

That's true I am mostly looking for 1month/2month it could and probably should be higher then what it is today. I also hold shares in Ford and Comcast as I believe they are safe hold with good dividends. Recently bought CHTR for 150 but I would of bought options too if the premium wasn't so high. I'm mostly looking for good options to buy rn I already have a decent dividend portfolio I have been working on

I do think LEAPs aren't totally antithetical. Its a gray area but if you give yourself 18-36 months for the thesis to play out you can still rely on mismatches between the voting machine and weighing machine. Personally although I've never done them I do keep them as an option for some total no brainers I want to take big swings at. Buffett talks about investing like you have a 10-punch punchcard and can only buy 10 stocks your whole life. I think I'm going to give myself a 10-punch options punchcard.

I think buffett is a little extreme.... I think it's fine for example to load up on hpq at 18... And punt at 25 provided there's another undervalued play... Maybe Humana or unh.. they run... So Im not totally against trading many times a year (but ideally less than once a week).. But my plays are unpredictable. Humana and hpq repriced within a month... But chtr for example has been a scary slog... Down up to 15 percent and now barely up over 4 months. Options don't allow that freedom from deadlines.

More of a thought experiment than actual advice. He has obviously bought hundreds of stocks. More that you should only buy a stock of you still would do it in the only 10 stocks for life scenario, it should be that good.

Ford is such trash that even this sub doesn't post about it. And it's not like this sub has high standards either

Only time Ford was worth a play was around 2008 at $4.

Jesus... they closed at $1.01 in late 2008. Meanwhile they're still nowhere close to breaking their all time highs set back in 1999. This dot com bubble era headline is hilarious https://www.wardsauto.com/news/archive-wa…

Personally I do have 2% of my port in Comcast. P/B of 1, 12% RoE, 12% shareholder yield. P/FCF & P/E of ~8. EV/EBITDA of 5. Had the position 3 months and I'm up 3%. At the end of the day getting $1 of equity in Comcast for $1 initial investment and getting 12% annual return on that dollar seems like a good deal to me. I like the spinoffs and think they are unlocking shareholder value, made money on the Versant spinoff and ready to analyze and possibly play the theme park one when it happens. Comcast isn't a company I see going away or being smaller 10-20 years out and should have market beating returns even if it does shrink a bit. I hold the shares in my roth so I don't pay tax on the 5% dividend.
