What timeframe do you trade for NQ/MNQ?

Hey! I come from trading options, few weeks ago started an eval to check out futures and so far loving it! Trading options I mainly looked at 4h for overall direction, 5min for all analysis, and 2min for 21ema and more accurate entries. I've been checking out this sub for a while, and I see many people are trading on tick charts, seconds charts, and I've been questioning if I should be on faster moving time frame for futures, especially for NQ Would just love any insight on what everyone trades on, or in general what timeframes are used for futures. Thanks a lot!

Hey, I’m using personally 15min for sweep liq, 5 min reversal/ifvg,3m for entry/smt. I also keep an eye on ES just to make sure both are going the same way. 5m liq for it. Since i don’t use 1 and 2 min timeframe my winrate completely changed. When im in trade i switch to 5 mins for BE trail. Noise can get you out of a trade so i usually let like 2 candle of distance between price and my BE.

I trade the 987 tick chart while looking at the 2m, 5m, and 4hr for price structure

You will get highest integrity of data/information from using volume charts. The idea is to calibrate effort against result. When there is an inefficiency between effort and result, that's when opportunity is highest.

The answers you're getting are all over the place because timeframe is downstream of holding period, not a preference you pick in isolation. Decide how long you actually want to hold a position first — seconds, minutes, hours, days — and the chart question mostly answers itself. Rough map for NQ: if you're trying to hold for a few minutes, you're on tick/1m-5m and the 4h is just your map. If you're holding hours to days, your entry can still come off a 5m, but your structure, sizing and exits should come from the higher frames — and honestly the 2m/21ema stuff from options barely translates, NQ moves too fast for that to mean much. The trap people fall into is matching faster charts to the hope of more trades, not to a holding period they've actually committed to. Trade the timeframe that matches the position you're willing to sit through, not the one that looks busiest. Also worth knowing: your eval account is a different game. NQ on a prop eval punishes low-timeframe noise harder than your own money would, because drawdown limits are tight relative to tick size. If you're new to futures, err toward the slower side of whatever holding period you pick.
