DBS stocks or banks at ATH, should I buy or wait?

Should I enter now to capture the upcoming dividend or wait post dividend and enter at a potential “discounted value”?

Honestly. No one can predict the future. I first knew of d05 when it was around 30. I thought it was too expensive and waited for it to drop to a more "acceptable" price. And waited, and waited. Once it hits 50 a few months back i said enough waiting and went in at 50, 54, 56 and 65.... It's 76 now. Tldr; if you believe it's a good stock just get it. Even if it falls there's also good history of dividends. Keep it long term

I think people will continue to hold for foreseeable future regardless of dividend, so expect price to hold or steadily move up.

I didn’t dare to buy it at $18 but was thinking of buying it (just before pandemic went full scale). Soo….

Buy(before mkt close on Thursday) and sell(ex dividend).
  21. u/mrmrdarren 1 1 day ago
Why do you care about receiving the dividend or not?

If I had a dollar for every time this type of question is asked, I would have enough money to buy 100 shares of DBS.

At such high valuation? Sell. No brainer.

If you buy now and the price dips significantly ex-dvd, you can buy again and treat it as averaging down

why does it matter if your intention is to collect dividends?

Every time someone says it’s peak & it better to wait till it drop to buy. 😂 Emptied 6 figures in my DBS multiplayer a few years back & bought in, no regrets! Am still buying in whenever I could on DBS & OCBC, peak or no peak!

Whenever such questions got asked, it usually means the top is in.

5 years ago i asked myself the same question, if i had bought then rather than 3 years later, my gains would have been 20% more

Just buy and hold Even if the shares price drop, still have dividend coming into your bank account

I remembered a thread was locked recently for asking to discuss DBS earnings result because it's nothing related to FI but a thread asking if it's a good time to buy DBS is allowed. How is this related to FI? Mod seems to have double standard here.

I think it was locked because there's a rule against discussion of individual stocks.

Approved because none of the replies are about this stocks’s prospects and stock analysis, but rather answers are focusing on the psychology and unpredictability of buying a stock that has gone up a lot recently (widely applicable to other stocks and ETFs). Individual stock analysis is not allowed.

We must be looking at different thread.

I am quite depressed. Last time my purchase of UOB has not grown at the same rate as Ocbc and DBS. To the point my Ocbc for the first time is larger than my UOB holdings.

Damn, should have bought 1 Millions worth of DBS stocks when I was 10 years old. Worse fumble of my life...
