“People like OP will make the following dumb choices” OP: “yup” I think it’s pretty clear why one of those would be voted up and the other down
  26. u/jaykvam 1 22 hours ago
I don’t think it’s clear at all. Also, where did that quote come from? It’s not even remotely a paraphrase?
  27. u/Countcristo42 1 22 hours ago
I assure you that this post will be conveniently forgotten if GME sells their eBay stake and moved on to something else, and were someone to mention it, they would be invited to sell and move on.
Have a look at this comment. This is saying that if something turns out to be wrong, those that thought it was right would ignore that, pretend they never though it, and clap back at anyone that brought it up. Is that A: smart B: dumb or C: neutral as a behavior?
  28. u/jaykvam 1 22 hours ago
I don’t think your recharacterizations are fair at all. It’s neutral. Evaluating an investment, and reevaluating it, draws from so many factors, even if one of those factors degrades or disappears entirely. The hypothetical, even likely, “then sell” clap-back is somewhat negative though, and it’s annoying whenever it’s seen her among the RC cheerleaders.
  29. u/Countcristo42 1 22 hours ago
If the phrase “conveniently forgotten” seems neutral to you then we will struggle to converse. The comment quoted describes an abandonment of the goal that this sub and others have obsessed over for months now - to “conveniently forget” that and then attempt to shun those that bring it up if it were to fail is extremely negative behaviour. It demonstrates a critical failure to be able to see that you were seriously wrong, and evaluate how you might change how you think in the future. More worryingly it shows hostility to those pointing out that you should do that - which is honestly symptomatic of cult like groupthink. Groups that aggressively tell those bringing up their mistakes to leave the group are bad groups. This comment is too long, just read that last sentence.
  30. u/jaykvam 1 22 hours ago
Yeah, it’s far too long, but I did read. I’d like to return to the crux of my simple point: A: “I believe X.” B: “I believe X, too.” A upvoted; B downvoted. I find that to be an odd phenomenon yet one that occurs often enough in this sub.
  31. u/Countcristo42 1 22 hours ago
I believe X Negative thing about you You are correct Quite simple really I’m speaking to this example obviously, not the unstated general group of examples you are referencing

How many people were tricked into believing Gamestop when back on June 23 they said # GameStop will release additional materials regarding its proposed acquisition of eBay this week, including a detailed presentation of the strategic rationale and operational plan for the combined company. Source: https://investor.gamestop.com/news-releas… It is well over a month since GameStop issued that press release. To me it looks like GameStop has ready backtracked.

I think it wise to withhold judgement until the eBay situation comes to a conclusion.
  45. u/EX5TASY 1 1 day ago
That press release was on 6/23. Three days later they did another press release providing guidance for Fiscal Year 2026, and included an updated statement about the proposal that said:
GameStop's leadership team remains focused on advancing the proposed acquisition of eBay, Inc. ("eBay"). Additional materials regarding the proposed transaction are forthcoming.
    https://investor.gamestop.com/news-releas…
  46. u/Over-Computer-6464 1 1 day ago
Does "forthcoming" mean next year? Never? So it took just 3 days for GameStop to start backtracking. In 3 days they also backtracked from "detailed presentation of the strategic rationale and operational plan of the combined company" to simply "additional materials".
  47. u/EX5TASY 1 1 day ago
I won't speculate on what caused them to provide that update, or why we still haven't seen materials. If you see it as backtracking, that's your choice. What we do know is Ryan himself said "there have been a lot of interested parties...". So perhaps they have had to change to increasing demand. If you see it as disingenuous or unrelated, that's again your choice. Your original comment specifically focused on the 6/23 press release without mentioning the updated wording in the 6/26 release. Either you didn't know about the latter release, or you purposely didn't refer to it. You suggest Gamestop "tricked" people and were making disingenuous statements. But its actually your comment that is disingenuous for referring to an old statement that gave a specific "week" timeframe for releasing the materials.
  48. u/Over-Computer-6464 1 1 day ago
I focused on the 6/23 press release because it had a specific timetable and a specific description of what GameStop intended to deliver in terms of presentation. Even if GameStop had said in the 6/26 release that "just kidding, we have changed our mind and will not provide any more info" I still would reference the 6/23 press release as something they had backtracked from.

Nobody wants to believe GameStop is a legitimate business and RC a good owner operator, plus shenanigans in the stock market that have worked against GME shareholders. Cultists in this sense is synonymous with people who haven’t lost sight of that. We’ll see what happens. If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. I’ll admit as much after eBay concludes and warrants expire, but even then I trust RC to run a business profitably and be a savvy capital allocator worth joining.

Why would someone with the most GME shares want to hurt his own profits? He isn't killing MOASS or whatever the FUD narrative is. He's building a sustainable, profitable company that he can enjoy stable profits from.
  59. u/613Flyer 1 1 day ago
The fact that he is now looking to buy EBay is telling that maybe GME was a means to an end. His previous statements that he doesn’t care about GME and that his goal is eBay was telling. Why would he hurt his profits? The man is a billionaire. He could lost billions and still be just fine. Billionaires protect their own as we see with his support of the certain people, that goes against ape helping ape. The reason of why people do things is still being debated if actions taken 10000 years ago. Why RC is doing what he’s doing is anyone’s guess but most companies I invest in don’t dilute as often as GME does. While he has turned the company around it has been at the expense of shareholders. Will we see a moass? Idk and the longer this goes on it’s getting doubtful since every moass opportunity was rug pulled so much that even roaring K dipped
  60. u/DrDonkeyTron 1 1 day ago
Billionaires don't get to become billionaires by burning cash. You don't just stumble your way into that status. The idea that rich people don't care about losing money is so stupid lol.
  61. u/WorkingOnBeingBettr 1 1 day ago
Then why wouldn't he have bought more shares and locked the float to create MOASS? Ah yes...the other billionaires wouldn't like that. He has to trigger MOASS legally... Why would a billionaire hurt his profits? To get eBay because he never wanted to run GME (his words) Him not taking a salary is a drop in the bucket. eBay's board takes a salary and their shareholders make money. I could not care less if he makes a salary, he is rich.

I would entirely support us backing off the eBay acquisition. I’m not excited about a company operating on leverage. We just started making money hand over fist, even if a lot of that was due to TBill interest we were still bringing in healthy profits.
  66. u/Organic-Specific-500 OP 1 1 day ago
eBay is so overweight RC could run it lean in no time like GameStop and there’s huge potential in acquiring an existing global marketplace infrastructure.
  67. u/DuBois_LaGrange 1 16 hours ago
I don’t disagree but honestly, before investing in GameStop in 2021 I never gave a rats ass about a “shareholders return”. Yes of course shareholders are putting skin in the game but it’s the lowest level of involvement in a company. I’d rather a company have “bloat” as long as it meant the employees of the business were happy and feeling valued. Bending to the shareholders demands is a cowardly way to do business.  The fact that apes in here were talking shit about eBay having an on campus bar for happy hour and team meetings seems so maligned with apes original involvement in the market. Employees should be happy going to work and if a perk for some was that they got to have a brewski on the clock then hats off to them.  The fact that apes applauded downsizing, and exploiting overworked store managers has never sat well with me. I still hold because this is my occupy 2.0. I don’t believe shorts have closed and I’ve come to terms that I will ride my investment to zero or til shf’s are imprisoned still holds true for me. After all, GameStop is the main reason why the mom and pop games shops in my town closed two decades ago. Corporations just fucking blow.
  68. u/Eyelemon 1 20 hours ago
Preach brother. He’s been so fixated on acquiring EBay because he think’s their established reputation the space makes it worth the price. But GME’s physical locations contribution is imo the largest part of the puzzle. Easier to code an auction site from scratch than to build a 1400 store physical network.
  69. u/SonicSuper50 1 1 day ago
I don't think them revaluating their stance on ebay is a bad thing. Regardless of whether or not they are. Prudent business is changing course when necessary. The major issue with Ryan Cohen or any 'celebrity' CEO is that every move they make is hyper analyzed. The NFT marketplace was a failure. Ryan Cohen acknowledges he made mistakes when he first took over Gamestop, but look at it now? It is doing good. If they do change their stance on ebay it isn't even like they've lost money. So...who cares???
  70. u/thatdeterminedguy 1 1 day ago
In that case he should backtrack on dilution/ authorisation as well. Only fair if he's revaluating his ebay stance
  71. u/SonicSuper50 1 1 day ago
Oh look a stupidly negative comment that leads to no open and reasonable discussion posted by an account with their posts and comments set to private. 'Hurr durr, dilution bad'
  72. u/Rich_Tea_Bean 1 1 day ago
Why not respond to the point he's making,
  73. u/SonicSuper50 1 1 day ago
A company committed to long term growth raising capital by issuing shares is not a bad thing. We can see from their quarterly reports Ryan Cohen and his team have the ability to course correct a sinking ship, so I don't care if they raise more money at the expense of short term gains on the stock price.
  74. u/Rich_Tea_Bean 1 1 day ago
This entire investment movement was based on the forced unwinding of short positions by locking the free float. We got pretty close to holding the float before several waves of dilution all but eliminated any possibility of that happening. You're allowed to criticize your CEO for making irrational decisions
  75. u/SonicSuper50 1 1 day ago
The entire investment movement was based on there being a significant amount of naked shorts, the shares issued don't put a dent in that number.
  76. u/Temporary-Bear-7508 1 1 day ago
    How do you know that?
  77. u/chuckrabbit 1 1 day ago
So locking up the float never mattered?
  78. u/WorkingOnBeingBettr 1 1 day ago
Right. So DRS didn't matter, buying more shares didn't matter...lol. Talk about rewriting history.
  79. u/Slab00 1 1 day ago
That might be your movement but not the CEO's. It's only irrational to you.
  80. u/Rich_Tea_Bean 1 1 day ago
We supported ryan cohen as ceo as investors because we thought he was on our side. He's since said in interviews he never cared about gamestop he actually wanted to be ceo of eBay. Being invested in gme compared to even an index at this stage is irrational. There's better gains to be had in a savings account
  81. u/Slab00 1 1 day ago
He never said he never cared about GME you're being disingenuous. He said he never wanted to be CEO, which is accurate. Fact is gme was a dying brick and mortar business when RC took the helm and it is now more profitable than ever. Whatever you say cannot change that. Are shareholders being rewarded yet? No. Does that mean RC is a bad CEO? Also no.
  82. u/Rich_Tea_Bean 1 1 day ago
Yes It's a more efficient company but it's also vastly smaller than when he started, it will take a decade for the company to scale back up to where it had been operating. It will also take years for the share price to recover to where early investors can recoup losses. It's bad business to punish investors while also using their goodwill to keep the company afloat.
  83. u/Gruntfuttock69 1 1 day ago
So what that it’s smaller? Would you rather have a company that took roughly $6.5Billion in revenue but spent $7Billion to do so (erm let’s see, GameStop 2020) or a company that took $3.6Billion and had $420Million in profit (erm let’s see, GameStop now)? https://preview.redd.it/8471osqkyrih1.jpe…
  84. u/Rich_Tea_Bean 1 1 day ago
The company is halved. Share price will reflect that and for investors that's a catastrophic decline. The company has been saved from bankruptcy but there's a long way to go before market trust will recover( if we're treating this as a long term investment stock now rather than a squeeze play)
  85. u/WorkingOnBeingBettr 1 1 day ago
It is bad for us, it hurts share price. He could do a share buyback. That helps the company and shareholders.
  86. u/Bit-corn 1 22 hours ago
No? The purpose of the authorized shares being increased is so the company has the ability to raise interest-free cash immediately if ***any*** opportunity rises, not just eBay It takes months to negotiate loans with a bank on top of the financing fees and millions of dollars in interest that would be incurred With the increase in authorized shares, they can jump on an opportunity before it passes them by
  87. u/thatdeterminedguy 1 14 hours ago
That is a fair point to be honest and it would be great if he actually jumps onto such an opportunity
  88. u/chosedemarais 1 1 day ago
At this point I've seen this cycle a lot of times: 1) Rumors of something bad happening (CEO abruptly fired with no explanation, new distribution centers closing, FTX partnership going tits up, loopring partnership going tits up, NFT marketplace closing, bed bath and beyond fiasco, dilution into run ups, etc.) 2) Denial 3) Bad news confirmed 4) The same people who denied the bad news come out of the woodwork to explain how it was good, actually. So based on this I'm assuming the ebay offer withdrawal is true. We'll see what comes next I guess.

  93. u/McNerfBurger 1 1 day ago
That means ***literally nothing***. He is a billionaire. If RC came into this thread and decided to pay everyone's annual salary for the last 6 years as a thank you for investing, he would still make more off of interest alone than you will make in your entire life. Trusting him fully makes you cattle. Wake up.
  94. u/Over-Computer-6464 1 1 day ago
You trust him fully, because he gave up his pay package? The BOD approval still stands. The POA age could be put to shareholder approval 5 years from now and the entries package would be in effect, retroactively. You should also consider that RC negotiated extensively for that package, thinking it was an appropriate CEO Performance Package. Deciding to postpone the shareholder approval vote does not change that.

Wow, pretty insane shift in sentiment in the sub. Now any positive post will be downvoted into oblivion. I can understand if people would be disappointed if the deal would be indeed canceled, lots of potential synergy. But then, deal or not, Ryan bought almost 10% of eBay at a discount, where is this negative? But this does not feel organic, the tone reminds a bit of those frequent waves of options sellers invading the sub and behaving like pricks. And then, one day all the sudden they were gone. Before eventually resurfacing before the next IV crush. It seems RC is now ready to take action, be it eBay or something else. It is nice that all the sudden so many are concerned about us losing money. But then, personally I ask myself why would I sell now when things start to be interesting including record earnings?
