Credit card for someone who can't get one

Trying to get a credit card for my father but all of his applications always fail. We've tried maribank multiple times, trust cashback, dbs altitude, maybank, citibank etc... all fail he is currently 60+ still working, never had a card since like 2 decades ago. At this point I am thinking of getting him a supplementary card(im thinking trust link since cashback doesnt have supplementary) but i want one to be as fuss free as possible like: * he can pay on his own * use it anywhere ( i just want him to have a credit card since i think its safer than using his debit everywhere, including overseas) Does this exist?..

its a credit card you still earn rewards or cashback but your credit limit is how much your money you lock up with the bank.

Have you pulled his credit report? A denial is automatically a free report. Check if there is anything on there that you (or even he) does not know about. Does he make the 30k income threshold?

if i remember correctly it was cx, yes he make the 30k income threshold

Maybe the Dash visa virtual card might fit your requirements? It’s like a prepaid credit card that draws from the Dash app wallet. That way, you can also limit spending.

Curious prepaid mean must put monies inside then can use correct?

Does he meet the min income requirement for cc? If he does then probably need to see his credit rating.

Applied for secured card loh. Put 20-30k FD with the bank then pledge for cc.

Make life simple. Get a Wise or Youtrip debit card to start of with. only annoyance to this, is the amount he needs to top up for his needs. A friend loaded $50-$100 onto the card used by his elderly at home. key reason is for purchases at fast food joints & supermarket and not having to fumble around for coins

i just want him to have a credit card since i think its safer than using his debit everywhere, including overseas OP explicitly mention he wants a credit card for dad so how?

he is currently using debit, but i think credit is safer no? he is still working and manages his own finance

That's why you use a prepaid. Safer is only if there is fraud but it's also bound by credit limit. If you use a prepaid then it's the safest cos you only top up when you want to spend

Safer? Both works the same and has the same risk facing fraud. Overseas use, i do use my debit card when i don't want to risk exposure and compromise i.e. flashing my card for public transport when the pickpocket gang could be eyeing on me. My Wise card has S$20 in it, if it is stolen. then my loss is limited. The main cards and wallet + passport, deep inside my backpack. Already, banks are rejecting the CC application. so stick to DC and now is not the time to think about points and miles yet, until he gets hold of a CC

The simplest way is to just give him a supplementary card?

the last time i use a CC was before debit card was invented. (19 years ago?) i don't see why any1 would need a CC unless you spend afew thousand every month and want to collect miles for business class flight. we can already set debit card withdraw limit the same way credit limit works.

I get like 20-50 a month in cashback. if I can pay every month then why not
  23. u/sgh888 1 1 day ago
For some ppl they earn a lot your mentioned 20-50 cannot fill one full tank of petrol for their car. So they go for miles as they like to eat wind overseas feel shiok

me take 20-50 go eat mlxg

You close to my era. Share a "tip" with credit card you can sorta "borrow" monies with zero fees but so far only work on X bank cards and most banks closing the loop.

You must follow the trend. There are cashback card no need minimum spend. You spend $1 also give you cashback no kidding.

He probably lacks credit history hence the unsuccessful applications. FYI, credit card is not necessarily safer in terms of fraudulent transactions as the limit can be quite high and the banks may still ask the customer to pay up pending investigation. For debit, he can top up that particular account (should not be his main account) with only the amount he needs to control the max possible loss so it functions like a prepaid card.

Supplementary will work but make limit not so Much
