What I'm worried about is when it falls enough that there's little-to-no extrinsic value in the strikes I actually need. I guess that's a sign my cost basis is too high?

I'm out. I fed all my transactions to ChatGPT to create a risk dashboard for me and it made me realize that if there was a 2020 style crash, I'd certainly get margin called. I've clearly been underestimating my risks and for that reason, I'm out.

Not sure what your situation is, but I find it helpful to look at so-called "cashdelta" and "cashgamma" as metrics. The idea being: what does your portfolio's delta and gamma translate to in cash exposure? That and looking at 10% change, 30% change, etc.

There is Fear. And then there's Realistic Fear. Choose wisely. Brokerages, who have a lot of $$ and generally know what they're doing, employ realistic fear as that applies to only requiring < 50% margin on most naked calls. Why? Because the likelihood of rampant squeeze scenarios is Rare, and they make more $$.

I think you have the right idea. Tiptoe back in incrementally when you you fully understand the impacts of margin and leverage.

Yeah. I did this exercise because I noticed a pattern: Every time there was a dip, I was becoming fearful. But that's precisely when I want to have a big buffer to buy at a discount. Selling LEAP puts felt like free money (and has been fairly profitable), but I'm losing too much sleep over this and never able to buy at the bottom.

Meant the pain clinic business, but that’s a personal matter. irl, I’ll assert myself into my older friends lives about such matters because it’s a good thing for us to pay attention foe quality of life. I’ve seen it go badly for oldsters a few times. When people mention pain clinic, I like to nudge them in that direction. It’s a positive step AND I don’t have to be preachy. Refiners are making tons of money. Crack spread is just down off record highs and tons of capacity is offline thanks to Russia and Ukraine. Not to mention the pivot to jet fuel comes at the expense of diesel and guzzoline which further increases the spread. Refiners are running at full utilization right now, there is no additional capacity which means they have incredible pricing power.

I allowed myself 1 forced trade today that'll probably bite me. GOOG: STO 9/18 330/320p + BTO 9/18 360/365c at net credit of $0.85. Ideally it gets a bounce and I close out on upside profit. If it drops, my default plan is to sell the long put for profit to wash the loss on the call spread and take assignment. If it's flat I'm stuck with pennies for wasting my time.

SMH is okay, but you have to be somewhat patient for a mid price fill or be willing to penny down to a get a quicker fill. I tend to stick with the monthlies for both, since the weeklies are less liquid.

Been experimenting with SPY credit spreads. When does it make more sense to execute a credit spread vs a debit spread? Using a bull put spread vs a bull call spread for example.

Generally, buying (debit spread) when IV is lower and selling (credit spread) when IV is higher. At least that's been my strategy.

You do one when you expect the underlying not to move or to have a limit in its movement. You do the other when you expect a sharp movement.

Not much, I have a covered call in SMH. The $630 call had 24 days to expiration. I checked the cost to roll, not worth it. So I bought it back for $584. Net profit 52%, $641. I then sold another call at $625 for $11 exp 9/18/26. I bought the shares at $609. I haven't computed the annualized ROI. There's no capital actually required. The first trade was on the burner 15 days and had a profit of $641. My 100 shares purchased at $609. I know $60k in a bank account won't come close to $641 in 15 days.

I’m good. I work from home and have infinite ability to check on things throughout the day. Also my cost basis is something like $24 if you’re into doing that kind of funny math, so I’m not worried about losing money, just maximizing gains. To be honest if it holds $34 tomorrow I might roll to next week.

I’ll likely close the 8/21 26.5/24.5 pcs at the first hint of decline for \~50% and open 2, 26-27 short puts. The cc are 8/21 33.5 & 8/28 33. I’d need a dip before I’d roll them; the shares for both are at my cost basis.

I had a co worker who laughed in my face when I told him the options I was selling would usually net between $1-300 in profit per contract. He told me about his meta earnings call lotto where he bought one contract for $300 and sold it for $4000 and he was so happy. I asked him what his all time chart looked like buying options and he wouldn’t show or tell me. I told him I was up $40k so far that year from selling these options that were $1-300 per contract profit. Slow and steady wins the race baby!

I have a 37 put expiring Aug 21. I am inclined to close it. This company can't stay out of news for committing some fraud or the other for long.

I’ve actually done it before, last time after two rum and cokes I did 2.5 miles which was rough. Another time I was legitimately drunk and only managed 2 miles which was actually really rough lol I’m gonna probably hit 6 miles by the time I get back but I’ll probably drink a little

That’s awesome!  I do 12K-16K steps regularly at work, lol. I also do a lot of walking when I’m out of town; like 15K-20K when I visited Boston or NYC.  Lastly, does Strava kill your phone battery? I use it but often times I only record for an hour or 2 and then have to shut it off cuz my phone battery starts draining. 

So I use an iphone air, which is low battery size already, but I always keep my phone charged as I have a charger in my car, so even if it does, i usually get home even after a 2.5 hour walk with 30-40%. Most of the time im driving 20-25 minutes to the local trail that I like and I get a nice top off on the way there
