Trump Is Cooked

Now shown on Reddit as “[ Removed by moderator ]”

President Donald Trump on Monday scoffed at Iran’s demand for reparations for devastation caused to the country by the U.S. and Israeli bombardment over the past five months a demand he said Tehran’s negotiators hadn’t raised until now. Trump responded that he is now demanding “compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts.” Next is boots on the ground? I don't see US getting out of this... Leaps on Defense Stocks might be the play here and long on oil

Questionable source tbh but I could see this being their play
  2. u/Asclepius-Rod 985 1 day ago
Getting reputable sources is tricky when the two parties are the Trump Administration and Iran lol
  3. u/TherealCarbunc 95 1 day ago
FR, both have an agenda in using media to influence market sentiment. But it's pretty sad the first thing I check when I see something from the President of the United States is news sources from outside the U.S. to see what they're saying
  4. u/Madting55 12 1 day ago
You should be cross referencing sources on every single piece of important news you read without discrimination.

https://thegrayzone.com/author/max-blumen… Good website for unbiased & honest reporting. Great youtube channel as well. Max Blumenthal's been accurately reporting on the middle east (and elsewhere) for decades now.

That site is depressing. I’d rather watch Fox. Just today they said deportations are at record high levels never seen before.
  7. u/agent00F 1 1 day ago
I wouldn't say he's unbiased, but just better than the trash empire media.
  8. u/TheDirtyIntruder 1 1 day ago
As biased as it comes lol. Not saying it’s bad reporting but just scrolling a few articles the bias is clear as day.
  9. u/Low_Trust2412 41 1 day ago
Al Jazeera seems to have the best detailed coverage although they cover like every minute detail, even stuff most people wouldnt care about.
  10. u/GreedIsGood31 1 1 day ago
Al Jazeera is more biased than the Trump administration, why the fuck would you believe this propaganda outlet? That’s basically like believing Russia Today.
  11. u/Low_Trust2412 1 1 day ago
Seems pretty accurate on the factual stuff.  Most of the larger incidents reported there end up also being reported in the WSJ and FT.  I dont read the editorial content in any of those publications, cant comment on that stuff.
  12. u/Far-Fennel-3032 1 1 day ago
Although they are very biased when it comes to ME news, they are well positioned to get information for this conflict.

They've been more accurate on the diplomatic and how the negotiations have been going. Although Trumps side quest to use the war to manipulate the stock market makes it not a very high bar to clear

Trump’s legacy will go down the shitter with this war. He is Bibi’s little bitch and has no clue to get out of this mess.

Hell, it hasn’t even been that long. The Berlin Airlift was a massive undertaking to break the blockade and that wrapped up in like 1949. Or for that matter, Ukraine. Classics are classics for a reason.

Nice play by Iran if true. They can wait it out as the US is supposedly running out of missiles. It would have to be American citizens that need to step up to the plate to stop Trump from actually depleting the inventory.
  42. u/WordsHappenedHere 1 1 day ago
Both sides are full of shit. Iran cannot survive two years of an oil blockade. Their people will starve. Who knows where we end up but it will certainly be far worse than we were before Trump decided he was smarter than all of lit generals and ever former president in modern history.
  43. u/archjh 1 1 day ago
Probably but when you put pressure on global Oil supply - sanctioned Russian oil, damaged bombed capacity in Middle East and Iran oil supply...prices will go up and will accelerate these countries along with oil dependent nations moving away from the dollar.
  44. u/WordsHappenedHere 1 1 day ago
Market is already sniffing out all this bullshit. It knows Iran needs a deal. It knows Trump wants a deal. It’s clearly decided that’s where we eventually will end up.
  45. u/archjh 1 1 day ago
Yes the wall street/market will price...but main Street impact is the bigger issue....there are countries like India and China who import 80% of oil to run their daily economy and daily life...India hotels had to close down due to lack of gas shortage...a small supply shock will throw governments out...so they are fixed to do whatever works to keep daily life up. HIGHER GLOBAL DEMAND and LOW GLOBAL SUPPLY means always HIGH PRICES for everyone including the US.
  46. u/Pure_Land2705 1 1 day ago
"Moving away from the dollar" has been an evergreen story since 2003. Not even a story because it just gets drive-by mentions every now and again, never discussed in detail.
  47. u/archjh 1 1 day ago
Yes. But it has moved more now than 2003. Will slowly pickup pace. When you force countries who are dependent on daily oil to run their homes....you give no option.
  48. u/Pure_Land2705 1 1 day ago
It's a fine hypothesis, just evergreen and thinly supported. The petrodollar system has been around about 52 or so years, the moving away from the dollar theory has been around for half of that time
  49. u/Beginning-Luck-4026 1 1 day ago
It has been 5 months since the strait has been closed and global industry is still functioning and figuring out how to get by. Not ideal but it hasn’t been the apocalypse some people made it out to be.
  50. u/archjh 1 1 day ago
Still functioning ? You need to understand how oil markets work
  51. u/Beginning-Luck-4026 1 1 day ago
Don’t see empty shelves at the stores or lines at the gas station…I would call that functional.
  52. u/ElundusCaw 1 1 day ago
Can't Iran export to its neighbors still? Do they HAVE to send the oil through the strait?
  53. u/ChasingDucks 1 1 day ago
Ship transportation is much cheaper. They'd need rail or trucks to transport oil at scale and both are more expensive by at least double for the transport cost. Rail also has the negative of being static and vulnerable to persistent attack. They're doing minuscule running via motorbikes and small trucks across the desert currently but that is inefficient at best.
  54. u/ElundusCaw 1 1 day ago
True, I figured if they were gonna wait out Trump they still need to find some way to sell the oil.
  55. u/Pure_Land2705 1 1 day ago
They need to sell it much more than we need to buy it. A few days ago it was at the exact same price it was when Trump was inaugurated for the second time. It's gone up a few dollars in the past few days but every day of sub-$100 oil is a Trump win that nobody will ever give him credit for.
  56. u/archjh 1 1 day ago
There was a pipeline project from Iran to India through Pakistan...their was chanar port development and faking it on rails from there avoiding the strait...all put to a stop by US
  57. u/ElSlabraton 1 1 day ago
You lost the war you started. Cope.
  58. u/WordsHappenedHere 1 1 day ago
Lol. Who is this “you”. Are they in the room with us now
  59. u/catchthetams 1 1 day ago
We aren't blockading shit long enough for that to happen. Trump will flip flop based on God knows what and pull out with absolutely zero credibility. His sycophants and Fox News will praise him for not getting into yet another forever war, and will brush off the 300 billion+ as just doing business with freedom.
  60. u/mugicha 1 1 day ago
The US doesn't have the political will to continue the blockade for 6 more months let alone 2 years. The Iranians have all the cards.
  61. u/Pure_Land2705 1 1 day ago
All the cards!! That military dictatorship is a huge success so far!
  62. u/mugicha 1 1 day ago
If you disagree with that then what options do you think the US has left? We're not putting boots on the ground. We're running out of precision munitions and interceptors. Air strikes alone have clearly not toppled the regime or disabled their missile and drone capabilities. Trump's threats to wipe out their civilization and destroy all their power plants haven't been taken seriously. They're in control of the strait and we've shown them that there's no point in negotiating with us. We have no leverage over them and all they have to do is just keep doing what they're doing until the midterms and/or until Trump is out of office. Going forward they're going to control the strait and there's clearly nothing we can do about that. The Trump admin completely botched this. So yes, they have all the cards and we have none.
  63. u/Pure_Land2705 1 1 day ago
Congress can (and probably will) fund replacement munitions, which are already in the production pipeline "They're in control of the strait", no not really. The U.S. Navy has military superiority but the theocratic paramilitary that controls Iran only needs nickel and dime attacks to disrupt commercial shipping. It should (and will) be dealt with the same as any terrorist group. Iran's greatest "card" is that Democrats, if they do well in November (which may or may not happen), will apparently let them win.
  64. u/mugicha 1 21 hours ago
Congress can (and probably will) fund replacement munitions
It will take years to replace what they've used.
Iran only needs nickel and dime attacks to disrupt commercial shipping.
    Exactly my point.
It should (and will) be dealt with the same as any terrorist group
How? Further bombing? Hasn't worked yet. Boots on the ground? There is no political will in the US for this and it would take 500k+ to subdue a country the size of Iran. So what's your suggestion? To hand wave a solution in a reddit comment and blame the Democrats? Republicans control both houses of Congress and the executive branch, so if there was a solution surely they'd be implementing it right now, right?
  65. u/Pure_Land2705 1 20 hours ago
"It will take years," friend it all takes years. The bombs that were already dropped took years. The defense manufacturing base doesn't go dormant and Trump pushed to expand it before all of this started. Iran's potential to carry out terrorist attacks "isn't your point", it's the reason this war is happening, find a different point if you want to make one your own "How" do you deal with a terrorist group? Militarily. Not hard.
  66. u/agent00F 1 1 day ago
Lol they literally survived the Iraq-Iran war.
  67. u/Ap0llo 1 1 day ago
Iran can easily survive a few years. Maritime transport is not their only means of trade. They can hold off for 4-5 years, maybe longer depending on how much oil goes up after countries exhaust their strategic reserves. They have no real incentive to negotiate at the moment, unless they are offered a windfall deal, they can sit and wait. Without a deal, gas will hit $5.50+ average by November.

I actually feel a tiny little bit bad: trump did try to fold, a couple times. But every time Israel would bomb Lebanon and the whole thing would be reset. I mean trump is entirely to blame because he’s a narcissistic dipshit, but listening to bibi was really some peak stupidity and now he’s trapped by that psycho (who is also stuck in the bloodthirsty administration he himself is responsible for building)

Why would they if we're killing them at the same rate? They either side with the devil they know or the devil that doesn't care. Those people already know gonna be were killing them regardless, and they have a new government and leaders. What happened before is completely irrelevant to those in power now.
  102. u/klingma 1 1 day ago
Because their home rule has actively made their lives worse? Similar reasons to other revolutions that have occurred in history.
  103. u/NonchalantGhoul 1 1 day ago
But they didn't? Their lives was already worse from our constant bombings, which predates the new ruler's ascension. The new ruler is invoking more will than past leaders that's positioning them to become stronger players. Today's growing pain, tomorrow's new found strength.
  104. u/klingma 1 1 day ago
Well, you'd be 100% correct if you ignored the protests and killings of protestors BEFORE the bombings occurred, but since we can't ignore that fact, you're wrong. Iran made their lives worse.  I appreciate the attempt at revisionism though!

  122. u/DrinkingVomit 5 1 day ago
All Iran has to do is not lose. They don’t even have to “win.” And how quickly we forget how effective Middle East guerilla warfare is when it comes to draining our economy.
  123. u/gizamo -4 1 day ago
Not losing is already resulting in their people starving. All they have to do is give up nukes, and they'd get concessions. It's telling that they won't. Guerilla warfare is irrelevant when the US's sanctions and bombings have been so successful. The US doesn't need to hold land. They're just waiting Iran out.
  124. u/DrinkingVomit -1 1 day ago rescued
Iran can stay radical longer than the US can stay solvent in this ordeal. But whatever. Time will tell! Until then, go Iran go!

  126. u/Delicious-Bat2373 1 1 day ago
acknowledging reality is not rooting for the enemy. I hear this a lot when people blindly assume the US can just do as it pleases. Iran is no saint by any means, but that's not what they were saying. You equivocating it to rooting for them is immature. Know your enemy, know their strengths and weaknesses. That includes all participants.
  127. u/no_dice -2 1 day ago
I mean at the same time the US will further deplete stockpiles, their economy will crumble, and at the end of it they’re going to be in the exact same position as they are now.
  128. u/gizamo -4 1 day ago
Iran has near zero effect on the US economy. The strait being closed only increases the world's dependence on US natural gas, as well as oil from the US, Russia, and Venezuela/US. The US would sooner let up Sanctions on Russia at this point than on Iran.
  129. u/no_dice 1 1 day ago
A near zero effect? Is that why the price of gasoline and diesel remains unchanged since the start of the conflict and the strategic reserves are at the same level? Is that also why the price of agricultural inputs/outputs in America has remained unchanged?
  130. u/gizamo 1 1 day ago
The price of gas hasn't even really reflected the price per barrel of oil. It's speculative, and it reverts to the mean just like everything else. Agricultural products are still within reasonable price ranges in the US. People aren't even adjusting their buying at all. Meanwhile, more than half of Iran is malnutred by their own wildly underestimating and measurements of malnutrition. People are literally starving there.
  131. u/doolpicate 0 1 day ago
You dont understand Iran yet. They arent just another middle eastern country. They can be fully independent at a lower quality of life for a long time. By then America will learn what it means to pay 13$ at the pump

[removed] — already gone when the archive first saw it

  133. u/Delicious-Bat2373 1 1 day ago
And that's just it, isn't it. We're talking about people with a quality of life standard that makes homeless people in the US look comfortable. The rural areas of Iran are full of mud and brick huts with people that don't use bank accounts, cellphones and the internet. They can endure their current conditions longer than the US can endure $7/gal Diesel.
  134. u/doolpicate 1 1 day ago
It doesnt take much to live off vast areas of land. Even low levels of agricutlture works out fine. I saw fruits on US shelves and thought they were all similar and huuuge. I mean, that's not how agriculture works. 1 Mango tree feeds 6 families. One pumpkin patch can do something similar, all while growing in kitchen waste. tons of berries. ... etc etc. drought resistant cereals, etc etc... You dont need much to live. However the american/saudi style means rejecting perfectly ok food before and after it reaches stores. One of my first experiences in the US after landing, sleeping off the trip and going of the hotel in the morning, was through the front of a Panera bread. They had piled up about 3 bags full of loaves! I thought that was unhygenic storage, only to later realize they had thrown it out. WTF. I saw massive waste everywhere.
  135. u/Odd-Finger-4693 -1 1 day ago
And Americans will cry about paying 5 dollars for gas and inflation skyrocketing. Not only dad, it will pus the fed to raise rates
  136. u/gizamo 0 1 day ago
Yes, probably, but that won't help Iran. Trump is already ringing US elections, and even if Dems are able to regain any modicum of control, the Dems also don't want Iran to have nukes. They'll be just as hardlined about that as Trump. It's a nonstarter. Iran won't get anything better than the deal they had under Obama, except it would certainly be vastly more strict on everything involving nuclear weapons and nuclear energy.
  137. u/Odd-Finger-4693 1 1 day ago
Nahhh America has no power. Look at Russia single handedly taking on Europe, all the sanctions and still its standing. Iran has become independent to were Trump can talk all the crap he wants and continue his blockade but it won't do nothing. They got you by the balls
  138. u/ErikChnmmr 3 1 day ago
Wtf are you on about? Russia is banging its head against Ukraine and is in fact starting to lose ground. It’s not like it’s a full on fight between Europe and Russia. If it was this war would go very different but who knows what the damage would be. Russia should. E utterly embarrassed with the situation it is in right now.
  139. u/Odd-Finger-4693 0 1 day ago
Yeah with all the help from Europe and America. They are out of interceptors. Every missile Russia shoots hits it target now. And guess what, that's why Iran has America by the balls, missiles can't be intercepted anymore. All interceptors are in Israel protecting the holy land 🤣
  140. u/gizamo 2 1 day ago
It's impressive that you managed to tell me that you know nothing about the US, EU, Iran, or Russia in such a short paragraph.

This could easily also cause an uprising. If the populace gets hungry and desperate enough there is essentially nothing left to lose. A starving and angry population is a very dangerous beast to wrangle
  142. u/Guest_0_ 10 1 day ago
Bombed with what? The US can't escalate or Iran will decimate ME oil production, they already used up their long range strike missiles and interceptors. Fly aircraft over Iran when they have all their new shiny manpad AA from China?  Trump has no good moves here, hence why he didn't actually bomb the fucking shit out of the or whatever nonsense he was recently spouting.
  143. u/Dangerous-Sale3243 6 1 day ago
You’re right overall but manpads are only useful against low flying aircraft, typically helicopters or drones. To shoot down fighters and bombers you need big missiles like the Patriot that can reach that high.
  144. u/Guest_0_ 6 1 day ago
You're absolutely right. Although I'm assuming if the US started a lengthy traditional bombing campaign the net effect would be the same, with Iran simply retaliating until the neighboring infrastructure was annihilated.  Or China/Russia totally "wouldn't *wink* *wink* supply them with air defenses capable of downing US jets.
  145. u/gizamo -4 1 day ago
Middle eastern oil production is irrelevant right now anyway since neither Iran nor the US are letting anything thru the strait. The US has not used up their long-range weapons nor interceptors, and their Chinese equipment has hit like two planes out of hundreds of planes doing thousands of flyovers. Pretending Iran has the upperhand right now is beyond absurd. It's pretty telling of either where you get your news or your intentions here.
  146. u/BeefyMcPissflaps 4 1 day ago
Your reply would also allude to where you get your news and your intentions. I'm not saying either of you are right or wrong, but your conviction that our stockpile of munitions hasn't been drastically depleted and put the US in a position of weakness speaks to your news sources. Your comment bout ME oil production being irrelevant is also another point that a politically skewed news source would spout. I try to gather as much information as I can from a multitude of news sources and see if I can see any kind of consistent message.
  147. u/Bronze_Rager 1 1 day ago
Don't need to bomb them. If the statement above is true, then Iran is resigned to being poor until end of Trumps term. Iran's currency is pretty much worthless on the international level
  148. u/Guest_0_ 1 1 day ago
The global economy and US military blockade operations would collapse long before 2 years of a sustained occupation of the strait.  All Iran needs to do is hold out a few more months, they've already denegrated the US reputation in a way that's never been done before. It reminds me of a quote from Iron Man where Micky Rourke says: "If you make God bleed, people will cease to believe in him". Iran has just done that to the US military.  Now all that remains is not giving Trump a political off ramp. Gas prices snd inflation will do the rest if this is the status quo come November.
  149. u/Bronze_Rager 1 1 day ago
"The global economy and US military blockade operations would collapse long before 2 years of a sustained occupation of the strait. " \-How? I completely disagree. Most of the oil from the strait is going to asia.

If what you said is true, the Us military is a paper tiger. Russia and China can just walk in and over take CONUS. But it didn’t happen.
  151. u/Yankee831 1 1 day ago
Man pads highly effective? The USA was flying thousands of sorties over Iran. Only took a few hits on anything flying. 3 aircraft hit, 0 pilot deaths, we setup an airstrip and blew up more aircraft than that just to get our F15 pilot back. We have thousands and thousands of bombs/missles for aircraft. The only thing strained is some stand off munitions that were only procured in small amounts and regional interceptor missiles.
  152. u/R3CKONNER 0 1 day ago
IRGC institution is no longer afraid of organized civil resistance. Months of indecisiveness and incoherent strategy from the Trump Administration allowed Tehran to take the time and literally cut through tens of thousands of young protesters.
  153. u/gizamo 1 1 day ago
That's possible. It's unclear what remains of dissidents in Iran. It's possible that they're still organizing, but it's also possible that Iran has killed and imprisoned many of them. However, every young person they kill leads to many more that hate them. Parents, siblings, friends,...no one supports governments that murders their loved ones.
  154. u/Sharp_Sign1203 1 1 day ago
By "cut through" you mean kill, right? Say it. They are killing their own young people.
  155. u/Dry-Magician1415 8 1 day ago

Killing the leaders or negotiators several times during negotiations will do that to you. Israeli tactics are short term win long term loss scenarios, and unfortunately Trump doesn't look at the long game.
  157. u/Criticall16 16 1 day ago
Trump has 3 options: 1. Boots on the ground. 2. War crimes even worse than what we have already committed. 3. Carpet/Nuclear bombing. All three are not just heinous but ineffective. The third especially is the most dangerous. If Trump uses a Nuke, Putin will have a free hand to nuke Ukraine, and China to use nukes against Taiwan.
  158. u/Mika-El-3 -2 1 day ago
    4. Continue the blockade and strangle Iran’s economy. Iran is facing 85% inflation, record unemployment, 3+ hour fuel wait, and shocks to its supply chain.

This also makes US, Russian, and Venezuelan oil more valuable, and it encourages more countries to build infrastructure for US's natural gas. And, it enables Trump to justify bombing more of Iran's weapons stockpiles, which is really what their Middle Eastern neighbors and Israel want out of all this.
  168. u/Criticall16 2 1 day ago
Also makes Iranian oil more valuable which can be easily exported to India and China via Caspian Sea and land routes which alone make up a quarter of the global oil demand.
  169. u/gizamo 1 1 day ago
That's true, but the land routes aren't large pipelines. The volumes are miniscule compared to the shipping lanes. Further, the distance, mountains, and wildly unstable geopolitics make land pipelines to East and South Asia basically impossible.
  170. u/Criticall16 1 1 day ago
As per CIA and US military’s CSIS assessments, a blockade will not work as Iran has a sea access to Russia through Caspian see and land access to China through Pakistan and Afghanistan. Moreover, US does not have the required munitions to sustain a blockade as per CSIS assessments.

And eventually both sides just declare victory and the oil flows. Because that’s what both sides want. That’s what oil futures are telling you. And they’ll continue antagonizing. Lots of fits and starts. It’ll flare up again. Then back down. The real changes won’t come for years. The reality is that our forces will have indefinite deployments in the Middle East now for at least a decade. All paid for by U.S. taxpayers. And markets won’t care.

It won't be 3 years. Iran is actively rebuilding their drone and ballistic missile supply and the US is running out of interceptors. Iran would just need to conduct a massive attack on just one of the US support ships and overwhelm the fleet's defenses. Trump won't be able to tolerate the political backlash of a lost ship and dead sailors for an unnecessary and illegal war. The US war-gamed this scenario about 25 years ago.

This is how most the the planet deals with Republicans in America. Just wait out the next election cycle until you get reasonable adults in the room again. Once a Democratic Congress comes in, they make the deals, drop the tariffs, and cool the frustrations on the international stage. Suddenly, the world goes back to a better place and Republicans can cry that Democrats gave up the farm to cancel tariffs and got “completely taken advantage of” to reopen the Straight of Hormuz. Democrats shit their pants at the slightest pressure, blow the midterms, blow the general, install another Republican psychopath and The Whole process starts over again

Any Republican and at least half of Democrats would have a similar policy. US politicians aren't going to let Iran have nukes, and they'll keep trashing Iran's economy to ensure that.
  272. u/Little_Machinez 21 1 day ago
Weird, the last president who made a deal with Iran happened to ensure that Iran wouldn't have a nuclear weapon until.... Trump tore up that deal back in 2019.
  273. u/gizamo -14 1 day ago
Unfortunately, Obama didn't ensure that. That was part of the problem. Iran continued with their nuclear development programs, specifically developing the capabilities to enrich uranium much faster. Trump was dumb to tear up that deal rather than work peacefully to revise it, but ultimately, it wasn't going to prevent Iran from getting nukes. This war still has the potential to do that, despite this dumb article that literally means nothing; it isn't even from Iranian authorities.

Pretending this is anything but a moronic fiasco is absurd. And sending Americans to die on foreign soil because of this bullshit is even worse.
  278. u/gizamo 1 1 day ago
It can be both a moronic fiasco and still be based on the practical realization that a Jihadist terrorist state shouldn't have nukes. Americans aren't dying on foreign soil. This isn't a "boots on the ground" style of war. It's a "bomb their military infrastructure and stockpiles" sort of war. It's barely even a war, it's more like two countries trying to wait out the other's economic resilience (Iran) or political apparatus (US). Regardless, no Republican nor Democrat is going to let Iran have nukes, and neither will let Iran set up a toll on the strait, except maybe a complete pushover Democrat, which we haven't had since, idk, maybe Carter. If Iran tolls or blocks the strait in anyway, the US will blockade it. It's that simple. Tldr: long oil.
  279. u/Fit-Perception-2243 1 1 day ago
They didn't want nuclear weapons and signed an agreement. Now they want nuclear weapons and control the Straight.
  280. u/gizamo 1 1 day ago
They obviously always wanted nuclear weapons, and they demonstrated that repeatedly with their continued development of fast-enrichment technologies and their development of tools to enrich uranium well beyond 60% threshold. Iran will never control the strait. They can shut it down for a while, but soon enough, the US military will clear a pathway, and then they'll charge customers for protected passage, which would still be cheaper than what Iran wanted as a toll. Further, if Iran tries to toll, the US will just keep blockading it entirely. Most of that oil goes to Asia, and it's geopolitically advantageous for the US to keep it blocked.

That's telling.

You voted with the Dems for 40 years, and you use the term “mate?” Hmmm… Dont sound like no Muican to me
  289. u/adrr 0 1 day ago
That ship has already sailed when Trump pulled out of JCPOA. Why Iran refused to negotiate with Biden since they said US can’t keep its word. The thing now is negotiating on the end of the US petrol dollar. Tolls won’t be in USD so it’s highly unlikely the oil transaction will be on USD. 20% of the world’s oil not done in USD. That has broader impacts like less demand for USD which will pressure fed to keep interest rate high.
  290. u/gizamo 1 1 day ago
Iran didn't negotiate with Biden because they were caught lying about their nuclear enrichment program and they didn't want to have to answer to that. Iran has no power to end the USD's dominance. Their war is only solidifying that. If Iran tries to put tolls on the strait, the US will put their own tolls on the strait. The US and literally every other country on the planet has the same right to do so as Iran. The straight is not their territory. It is international water. If Iran blocks the strait, the US will also block the strait. The broader impacts actually happening are 1) the world is investing massively in infrastructure for US natural gas, 2) US is making bank from Venezuela oil, and they'll continue developing that to make Venezuela prosperous and democratic, and 3) Iran is getting further marginalized as the rest of the world prioritizes refineries and infrastructure for the rest of the world's oil grades and Iranian oil takes a back seat basically everywhere. Oh, and 4) Iran's economy is destroyed thru sanctions for the next decade or two. The damage is both short and long-term, in an age when advancement is growing exponentially.
  291. u/thatsthey1 1 1 day ago
Where is the money from the Venezuelan oil?

Iran didn't have nuclear weapons before Trump blew up the deal that was in place and then started down this road. Based on all your replies and you position statements it's obvious that you're a conservative right wing voter. That's ok because voting is part of what makes America great. Blindly buying all the BS lies is what's making America the laughing stock of the world.

Iran was rapidly importing and enriching uranium up to around 60% before the 2025 bombing.
  294. u/gizamo 1 1 day ago
They developed equipment with the capability to rapidly enrich uranium. That was their way of skirting Obama's agreement while being able to continue with their nuclear ambitions. Imagine pretending Iran isn't constantly lying. Oof.

This is one of those wars where to end it we don't need to win, we just need to be willing to walk away and let Iran impose tolls on the strait. It isn't difficult, it's just a bit of pie on the face of the guy supposedly carrying a big stick that couldn't beat them into submission.

Trump said it was going to be 5 to 6 weeks. It's now in the 6th month, and Iran saying they are not going to negotiate for years. He has threatened total destruction numerous times if they don't open the straight, and nothing has happen and the straight is still closed. He has said they are begging for a deal, and he can't get it done. He has demanded the rest of the world open the straight, and everyone has told him to pound sand. He's depleting out oil reserves to dangerously low levels, and if reports about our munitions dwindling are true, he has made us more vulnerable. You're right about one thing, he didn't lose control, he never had it. Sure Iran is a mess too, but trump has no control and it's obvious. Trump is a joke that world understands is just a wind bag and a fool. Biggest foreign policy blunder since Afghanistan, and ain't over yet. Might be worse, especially considering it has taught Iran that locking down the straight is a gray strategy.

How about 6 bankruptcies, the failure of every major business venture you’ve ever stamped your name on, and your only profitable ventures bankrolled by fronting money laundering operations and the couple hundred million you made from a reality TV show where you traded on the lie of your own success?
  333. u/UpstairsWilling7359 1 1 day ago
Let me start this by saying, I hate the man. Grew up in NY, and hated him since the 80’s. But his bankruptcies were a scummy scam tactic. He profited from them. He’d strip everything of value out of a company, not pay any bills making many of his vendors go under, hiding the money elsewhere, and then file.
  334. u/deepasleep 1 1 day ago
I think the problem is so many of us accept those scummy tactics as legitimate business strategies. It’s one of the things that’s leading people to abandon capitalism.

The problem isn’t simply the courts, it’s that our species is topped up with a bunch of mental defectives and the evil vampires that enjoy feeding on them.

It’s not that people liked him. It’s that bone metastasis Joe was too vain to bow out after one term and allow for a proper primary…. I hate Trump more than almost anyone, couldn’t see myself ever voting Republican, and would support a Democrat unless there’s a better third party or independent (with an actual chance of winning) on the ballot; but Biden did a real disservice to the country by trying to run again… I feel sorry for what he’s going through, but it’s insane to see in real time that he wouldn’t have even made it halfway through a second term… when that’s exactly what most of us were concerned about….
  347. u/UpstairsWilling7359 1 1 day ago
I completely agree. And although I’m a lifelong democrat that situation is one of the core problems of the party. They want to decide what’s best for us. Even if it’s not what we want. Like forcing Hillary because it was her time.
  348. u/rabbidearz 1 1 day ago
This exact thing is a lot of why people who aren't Democrats are so against considering it. The whole idea of someone you don't have any good reasons to trust being allowed to decide everything for you through regulation is terrifying. Democratic governance is largely about increasing regulation to enforce "what's right", so seeing the Democratic party consistently put the candidate they want at the top, rather than have a democratic process of election to push the people's candidate to the top, is a prime example of the concern in action. Those people putting their own interests over everyone else's are also deciding "what's right", so it undermines the whole approach. If there were well reasoned candidates on either side willing to debate and have dialogue and actually consider and meaningfully and respectfully engage the people's opinion /perspective, and especially if those people could actually be given a chance if enough people were behind them (as you might exoect would happen in a democracy), it would go a long way to convincing people to engage in the system. Because it seems shady and behind the scenes, a lot of people hope for transparency and someone who will at least cheat you to your face and not try to hide it. Enter Trump presidency. Trust in government has pretty low for a long time now, and oppositional politics serving elitist interests at the expense of the masses has unfortunately become the norm on all sides. Without a fair system and reasonably honest candidates it's hard to have faith in the system

I think the Democrat establishment did more a disservice foisting Harris upon the voting public than the incumbent president did running for a 2nd term
  351. u/Boom_Boom_At_359 1 1 day ago
Biden endorsed her while dropping out. Had he not made that endorsement, it’s likely there would have been some kind of primary-lite or similar event to at least battle-test Harris and give others a shot. That endorsement was the second worst decision he made…
  352. u/Ok-Technician-8817 1 1 day ago
Biden had zero agency over this process (or the vast majority of his presidency or even the choice of Harris as VP). The democratic establishment really wanted a woman president and Harris is the basket they put the eggs in.

You're not wrong, but there is a lot more wrong with the USA than two old men not knowing when to call it quits. We are an apathetic if not nihlistic, entitled, selfish society that is anti-intellectual and lacks good public education that doesn't brainwash you into believing in American exceptualism. The canary in the coal mine was masks during COVID. If people can't do the common sense bare minimum to protect, not themselves, but others than we live in a cold, irrational, selfish society. So when inflation soared and gas prices went up under Biden...of course Trump was going to win.

Cooked might be a little strong, but it’s probably going to be bad for him after the midterms. The Democrats are currently favored to take the House and the Senate. If they take the House Democrats suddenly have subpoena power. And taking the Senate means that judicial nominees aren’t going to get blindly rubber stamped and could mean that the Supreme Court could get back to sanity. And taking either chamber means that Trump can’t push things through via budget reconciliation.

This is exactly how the left looks and sounds now… Like they have a clue. They are just not serious people.
  377. u/imaloony8 1 1 day ago
Ya'll run reality TV stars for office. Where do you get off calling *anyone* a non-serious candidate? Trump regularly talks about annexing Canada and Greenland. He put an anti-vaxxer as head of HHS (which led to the biggest Measles outbreak in decades). He suggested we inject bleach into our bodies to treat COVID. Yeah, Media is biased. And it goes in both directions. Turn on Fox News and they'll be jerking each other off about how great the economy is and how amazing Trump is and how that pesky illegal war will be over any day now. And you're correct that the the pollsters have consistently underestimated Republicans... *when Trump is on the Ballot*. Trump, for all his faults, is really good at getting people who don't normally vote to come out and vote. But only when he's on the ballot. Those same people don't seem too interested in getting to the ballots for anyone not named Donald Trump. That's the problem with running a cult of personality. Since he's been in politics, the pollsters have been pretty accurate during midterms, off-year elections, and special elections. And those have not been especially great for Republicans since Trump has been around. Even in 2022 when Biden was in office and incredibly unpopular, the Republicans had a pretty mediocre result. They only gained 9 seats in the House, lost 1 in the Senate, and lost 2 Governors. Compare that to 2018 when Trump was in office and unpopular, where the Republicans gained 2 seats in the Senate... but lost *41 in the House, and 7 Governors.* And Trump is *less* popular now than at the same point in his first term. He's also made the cost of living crisis far worse with his War in Iran and his idiotic Tariffs. The Republicans will be lucky if they hold the Senate, and in spite of openly putting their thumb on the scale with their gerrymandering, they're even more likely to lose the House. And also keep in mind that Democrats have been doing extremely well in Special Elections since Trump began his second term. While those certainly don't guarantee a good performance in the midterm, it does say something about voter enthusiasm for the Democrats. If the Republicans keep both chambers, I'll eat my words. But I'd say no way in hell they keep the House and if they keep the Senate, it'll be by the skin of their teeth.
  378. u/Mean_Introduction516 1 1 day ago
I wish you luck. You’re going to need it. And if you can’t stand back and see the ridiculous and non serious candidates on the left you’re purposely not looking. Old fashion democrats were one thing…may disagree but not worried they didn’t love the country but these idiots are another thing and probably the best thing to happen for republicans in a while. There’s not a single serious candidate at this point for the democrats. And every day it’s seems like they’re getting worse. When you put your hate for trump above your love of your country (if that even means anything to you) this is what you get.
  379. u/imaloony8 1 1 day ago
You can't articulate anything man. All you can do is non-specifically call *checks notes* ALL DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES non-serious, presumably for the crime of not kissing Daddy Trump's feet. Let's be clear, I have major, MAJOR problems with the Democratic party, especially leadership at the top. There's a lot of deep rooted corruption in that party, and a lot of change that should happen. But comparing the Democratic Party is a lot like comparing Team Rocket to Sauron. They are not even in the same ballpark of evil. I want BOTH parties to be better, and Democrats are currently closer to what I want and voters are more willing to push the party in that direction, and candidates that reflect those values are more likely to run as Democrats. Now we have to talk about that other comment. When cornered, you accuse the other side of not "loving" America. Let me explain what patriotism is and what it is not. Patriotism is NOT waving around American flags, shooting fireworks, constantly talking about how much you love America, and blindly supporting the president no matter what he does. Those are superficial things that mean nothing, and in the case of the latter, is incredibly detrimental to democracy. Patriotism is standing up to defend the ideals of your nation, and putting your fellow man first. And also, the desire for your country to be better tomorrow than it is today. Patriotism is want accountability for your officials and wanting them to do better. You are happy to prostrate yourself for a man who is employing a personal police force who has arrested, deported, and murdered American citizens and seemingly doesn't even give a shit. Who gave the reins of the HHS to a man who started a Measles outbreak. Who gave reign on government spending to a tech billionaire whose cuts not only didn't save us money, but will cause untold deaths overseas. A man openly taking bribes in the form of his shitty cryptocurrency for anyone with a few million dollars to spare. Someone happy to throw American soldiers away and kill Iranians so he can manipulate the stock market with the thousands of stock trades he's made since returning to office. A man who claims to be the least corrupt politician of all time while bucking presidential traditions made in good faith, including releasing his tax returns and conceding an election he lost. A man who sewed doubt about our safe and secure elections by spreading conspiracy theories about the 2020 election because he's mad that he lost. A man who pardoned violent rioters who attempted a coup and assaulted and killed police officers. A man who then sued his own IRS with his own DOJ to take $1.8 billion of *our tax money* to give to said insurrectionists. A man who has been selling pardons, including to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road and one of the largest drug peddlers in American history. I hate Trump explicitly because I love America. He is a cancer eating away at the very heart of this country. He is killing people, he's stripping wealth away from the working class, and he's doing his best to erode our democratic process. He does not care about you or me, he cares for exactly one person on this planet: Donald Trump. He wants power and money, and he's getting it with the presidency. And you're just happy to give it to him. We will never do better until Trump and his ilk are out of office, and preferably answering for their crimes in court. I'll be eager to hear what you say after the absolute ass-kicking the Republicans get in November. Because then, it won't be me saying that I hate Trump. It'll be America saying that we hate Trump. To use a quote you guys love so much: "Facts don't care about your feelings."

Watch the video link…it’ll prepare you. And get out of your mom’s basement. Your conspiracy theories aren’t even entertaining. You don’t know the first thing about loving your country. We will see come November. Actually probably even before if you all keep pushing socialism and woke policies. I hope you do. Until then keep on hating and ranting while not mattering to anyone.

Sure buddy, I'll watch your video. I'll do it right now. In exchange, you watch a video for me. I'd link it, but this sub doesn't allow any Youtube links for some reason: "Every Illegal Act Trump Committed in 2025 (So Far)" - Legal Eagle

How is he cooked? He will tell his moronic base that he got exactly what he sought and the economy is so good people are begging him to slow it down. And his base will eat it up and call him a genius as they don’t vaccinate their children because Tylenol causes autism. If the unbelievably stupid happened, you can bet your sweet ass it will continue to happen. Until you must pass a basic IQ test to vote in the US, stupid people will continue to vote for stupid people….cuz they can relate to them.

He did lose reelection. It was only the pandemic inflation spike that got him a second term.

Wait til gas prices are $6/gallon across the country and then he might actually be cooked
  391. u/Pure_Land2705 1 1 day ago
The dog not barking is that $6 would've been cheap in most Iran war scenarios, and (imo) we're over the major kinetic war hurdle

Yeah but now he's burnt. And the kitchen is on fire.

He and his family are significantly richer. The only people getting cooked are us.

gas at the pump doubles and yes... he will be cooked... and yes, Americans are that simple. Try to overthrow the govt and engage in corruption and grift daily is fine, gas more than $3/gallon? Not fine.

This is maybe the first time where nobody is going to be willing or able to help bail him out of one of his major fuckups. This is going to stick to him as an ill-advised and unnecessary foot-bullet. Iran's leverage is that they don't give a crap about their people's suffering in comparison to their cause, so the bombing isn't a major threat.
  398. u/Pure_Land2705 1 1 day ago
Oil is virtually the same price as when he took office. Gas is too expensive but it's $5 cheaper than what the "smart people" said it would be if there's a war with Iran.

Trumps enemies up to this point were establishment goons who bend to capital. Iran does not fall under that category. There is no way out of this one.

And he’s continued to make dumb ass decisions. Iran is the latest of them
