$FEAM just funded by the US gov for critical mineral boron.

$FEAM The big attraction is domestic supply. Boron is strategically important, while much of the existing advanced-materials supply chain depends on foreign sources. 5E's Fort Cady resource has been designated U.S. Critical Infrastructure. They've had customer qualification and commercial-development work with potential customers. Corning — FEAM previously announced a non-binding LOI to supply boron specialty materials and collaborate on developing boron advanced materials. Borman Specialty Materials — another non-binding LOI, involving potential supply of boric acid and boron advanced materials. Borman serves markets including semiconductors, aerospace, military and automotive. FEAM has been sending boric-acid samples to multiple prospective customers for qualification, before larger offtake/supply agreements. So I'd describe FEAM as being in the commercialization/customer-qualification phase, rather than saying it already has billions of dollars of locked-in sales contracts. They also have research partnerships, including work with Georgetown University on boron-enhanced permanent magnets. Boron for semiconductors Boron is used as a dopant in silicon. Silicon has four valence electrons, while boron has three. When a small amount of boron is introduced into silicon, it creates what's called p-type silicon, allowing manufacturers to precisely control electrical conductivity. That sounds simple, but controlling conductivity at extremely small scales is fundamental to making transistors and integrated circuits. Boron also has applications in other advanced semiconductor materials. For example, boron nitride has attractive electrical, thermal and structural properties, while boron doping is being investigated/used in advanced materials such as silicon carbide and diamond electronics. And that's where the FEAM thesis gets interesting It's not really: "Boron = semiconductors = FEAM wins." AI + data centers + defense + EVs + clean energy + more advanced electronics and materials + demand for specialized boron materials + U.S. wants domestic supply + FEAM is a domestic producer. FEAM specifically says its target markets include semiconductors, defense, EVs, magnets, solar and other advanced technologies. And the U.S. government support is potentially significant. FEAM says it has received government support/letters of interest totaling more than $285 million, including EXIM and DOE support. The recent $8M EXIM investment is therefore meaningful because it helps move the project toward the much larger financing package required to build out the operation.
