I've come to the point where I never short any more

The market goes up 80% of the time, I have found that shorts get squeezed every single time. Sure, you can catch big waterfall red days, but they always end up squeezing even higher. Has anyone else simplified your trading and just wait for the market to come to you?

If you want to short this market, you need to know exactly where we are, and be able to spot the (extremely obvious) pullbacks or consolidation days. We have been in a bull markets for years now, zoom out and look at the daily charts. Yes you can catch a nice red day, but they are nowhere near as profitable as longs. Even during the down weeks the up swings are immense.

Exactly that, all my big losses have been me trying to short that never ending bull market. The truth is, market is bullish all the time cause inflation is high and money losing its value very fast. So only to keep thing at same level, markets need to inflate the asset prices.

At this very moment as we are both typing this, a scalp short. I'd watch it closely. For me, I dont look at anything under the 15 min chart any more until I'm ready to pull the trigger. Daily, hour, 15 min. Trading has gotten "easier" for lack of a better word because it's never easy

Keep an eye on 720 Qs today. If they holding we jump up to 725 at least & if the call buyers pile up at 730, we may end up squeezy squeezy. Loss of 720 opens up down side & it can slide fast as the biggies might want to park somewhere close to 700 for the big numbers this week.

Which market? Golds been short since march so longs would’ve killed you. Platinum since end of Jan..

Nice. But it’s very susceptible to Trump and also the war, as are all the index futures. In terms of being only long or short - it’s a fair way to do things, but keep in mind we’re still technically in a bull market but the signs are there we could be moving to a bear market, but the BIG caveat is, people have been calling bear markets since 2012 so no one actually knows. As long as you control risk you’re all good.

At 10m, plenty of opportunities to short NQ. But you have to be in and out fast.  NQ is a knife that cuts. When it rebounds after a big red, the bears get sliced hard.

Exactly, I'd rather wait for the move back up

Soon as we all learn to go long, the bear market can finally begin

it depends on what market you trade. I also rarely short anymore. most of the assets i trade trend upwards so following it is easier then catching a rare downside move.

As some guys have said, you can short but over a short period of time. For an inter-day strategy, I’ve been trying to incorporate shorts and that creates drag and no alpha. But over the short-term, intraday (a few minutes) there are opportunities. I do like the idea of shorts because I lived and traded through the 2000 dot.com bear market and of course 2008, so these types of pullbacks will occur again. When I run a long only model, that type of pullback really hurts, but boy is it tough to be short longer term over the last few years.

Trade both sides. Don’t limit yourself.
