Selling Volatility before mid-term elections

Is there a volatility spike before the elections? What are your plans for that period? I am just starting the research on this and will appreciate ideas.

I didn't start trading short premium until after the last presidential so I've kind of wondered the same myself. Looking at that week in November of 24, VIX started Monday at 22.5 and bombed down to 15 by the end of the week. Most of that move was on the Wednesday. I'm sure somebody has some good research on prior election cycles, and of course midterms which are the most useful topic right now.

I'm long vix, short my usual tickers i want to own. if you can't assess the (imo pretty damn high) probability that there will be a spike around the midterms, with this administration of all things, perhaps you shouldn't..

Anyone here actually trade election volatility systematically, or is it mostly a ‘stay out and watch’ situation?
