u/stefansilva_xrp 1 3 days agoIf you prefer to sell it at breakeven why buy in the first place you basically suffered for months for $0 if ETH hits $2,200 and you sell at $2000 you will say it was a mistake. You can make your own financial decisions I think it would be unfair on me to comment but I feel ETH may have one more drop next month before we start moving upwards.

u/stefansilva_xrp 1 3 days agoas you and I speak the SP500 is at an all time high. The failed Iran war will not last much longer and when the Iran war was at its peak and oil concerns and a broader war was on the table was when Crypto was the highest it was this year. Again, I am not saying that war is good for crypto all I am saying is the 4 year theory is still intact.
-
u/PatientFisher 1 3 days agoLolol SP500 is an all time high, but crypto has been bleeding for a year now? You have no idea what you’re talking about, or you have an agenda. Miss stefan silva xrp lol
-
u/mrjune2040 1 3 days agoThere is no such thing as a 4-year theory, that’s bullshit speak purported by crypto influencers. Crypto has only been trading with meaningful liquidity for just over a decade, anyone telling you that a four year cycle holds after what amounts to hardly any historical trading data is speaking out of their ass.
-
u/Sweet_Driver_3707 1 3 days agoU say there’s no such thing as a 4 year theory but it plays out time and time again lol
-
u/mrjune2040 1 3 days agoTime and time again, over the span of 10 years of meaningful data? lol.
-
u/Sweet_Driver_3707 1 3 days agoCriticising a trend that has yet to be broken is stupid. You don’t need 100 years of data to confirm a recurring pattern, you only need a few complete cycles which crypto has had. With btc specifically, the cycle is tied to a 4 year halving event and the cycles have lined up around the halvings. Until proven otherwise, the 4 year cycle is the base case. Also crypto has been around for 17 years not 10, so you are clearly someone who doesn’t do their research.
-
u/stefansilva_xrp 1 3 days agoi agree with you sweet driver the 4 year theory is the only one which hasnt been broken. 2025 was the best time for this theory to be invalidated there was no need for a drop but it still happend
-
u/mrjune2040 1 3 days agoCorrelation doesn’t equal causation, the halving is one influence within a complex set of economic conditions. And I wrote ‘a decade of meaningful liquidity’ because we sure as shit ain’t classifying the BTC-e and MtGox years as that. It was a nascent trading industry with relatively low liquidity and market depth- the data from that period up until 2017 really doesn’t count for shit.

The people that have money to spend, still have money to spend. My savings rate is still 40%. The people that you are referring to (the ones hurting in today’s world) probably never invested to begin with. u/Treeclimber919 1 3 days agoEth isn’t going anywhere. I have multiple Eth and my average is higher than yours without a care in the world. Chill out and wait. You’re 80% through the drama, don’t listen to social media. They are paid by you clicking on their videos that are purposely meant to attract people by saying ridiculous things, good or bad. Or just sell at $2k and buy back in at $5k in a year or 2.
-
u/SpontaneousDream 1 3 days ago
Eth isn’t going anywhere.
\*Ethereum isn't going anywhere, the same way Linux hasn't gone anywhere. ETH the token is a completely different story. Pretty clear that Ethereum's success as a chain does not translate to long term price growth for ETH. -
u/Treeclimber919 1 3 days agoWhere do you come up with this theory? The larger the ethereum network grows more validators will be needed. The 2-3% current apy will go up and attract more people to lock up their Eth when the apy goes up to 5% or 10%. The network continually fluctuates based on use.
-
u/SpontaneousDream 1 3 days agoUmm that's not how Ethereum staking works. Lol you are holding ETH and don't even understand the basics of staking? More validators = *lower APY*
-
u/Sweet_Driver_3707 1 3 days ago
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 3 days agoUnder current use correct.
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 3 days agoThe point being the network will grow larger as its use increases. When that occurs, the amount of validators that currently exist are going to need more validators. So what happens, the network will increase apy to attract more, the ratio of validators to transactions governs itself. When it needs to grow it grows. When there’s too many it shrinks by cutting apy. You’re telling me I don’t know wtf I’m talking about running a node, at the same time Eth s value has nothing to do with activity on chain!!!?? Okay buddy lmao.
-
u/wangshuying 1 3 days agoYou should learn more and talk less

You’re telling me I don’t know wtf I’m talking about running a node, at the same time Eth s value has nothing to do with activity on chain!!!??
Yes, that is exactly what I'm telling you. This is staking 101 and you don't understand it, which is insane to me if you claim to run a node as well. More staking = LOWER APY. This is why the APY is so low these days because there are many validators. When staking first came out, there were less validators and thus lower APY. It's that simple. This is literally how the network is designed. And yea, ETH's value has nothing to do with on chain activity because none of that on chain activity results in auto-buybacks or (significant) burns. This is literally why the price has performed so terribly over the past few years yet at the same time TVL and activity of the network has gone up. The fat app thesis has already played out, and the fat protocol thesis has not. -
u/Treeclimber919 1 2 days agoOnce again maybe I didn’t say every detail because I’m assuming you know WTF I’m talking about. Correct currently apy is low because too much Eth is staked under current traffic on chain. When network traffic increases 3x which is where Eth is heading more validators are going to be needed. Once again we are talking theoretical here before you sit on your high horse and talk down to others without understanding what one is saying. When Eth traffic on chain triples where it sits currently, you’re telling me the current number of validators staying the same won’t increase apy?!!! The network is growing as the network is growing the apy changes based upon the amount of staked Eth locked in staking protocols.
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 2 days agoWhich once again absolutely affects price, the more Eth locked, the less selling pressure and more buying pressure.
-
u/SpontaneousDream 1 2 days agoLol "when on traffic on chain triples". You don't know the future and you have no clue about what will happen to on chain traffic. Even IF on chain traffic triples or even does a 10x, there is no law, rule, or design in the Ethereum network that says you'll need more validators...and again, if you increase validator amount, you decrease staking APY. Idk why this is so hard for your little brain to understand lmao. The only way APY goes up is if LESS people stake their ETH. And there is far more to "price" than just "hurr durr more staked ETH makes price go up durr". Staking has gone UP year after year and yet price continues to decline. So obviously you're wrong there. And let's not forget that more staking= more overall supply because ETH supply is infinite. Dude just sell your coins you are in way over your head and it sounds like your bags are heavy AF. Or maybe get some meds for that ADD you have? Lol Have a nice day and thanks for playing!

-
u/blauebohne 1 2 days agoAs others commented, this is my how it works. If the network usage is growing, there's no need to have more validators. If the usage increases the fees will increase, which will increase the APY for the existing validators. This, in turn, may attract more validators. However, also keep in mind, as an investor you are looking for the highest APY for your money. The APY of Ethereum is pretty low compared to others assets, such as ETF.
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 2 days agoI’m well aware. The same way btc miners have a lower level of difficulty to hit a block when there are less miners. More miners increases the difficulty. I’m well aware and if I’m not clearly explaining this forgive my ADD. But back to Eth price is absolutely affected by the amount of Eth locked in staking protocols. Once again when price is low the majority of Eth is staked. When price rises more Eth becomes unlocked to sell and apy rises. We’re following the 4 year cycle here like it’s always been since it’s been. When Eth becomes mainstream as it’s heading the 4 year cycle isnt going to matter this is the theoretical scenario I’m talking about that will affect Eth price.
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 2 days agoMore validators less apy. I’m well aware. We’re talking future here. 3x on chain traffic same amount of validators apy goes up. 3x as many validators are needed to continue current landscape. Or maybe they will just let us hit a block everyday and earn 10% apy. I won’t complain but it’s not happening. You can apologize, I’ll take your childish comments.
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 2 days agoNo fucking kidding dude. Yes more validators is less apy. You do understand there is a ratio of locked Eth to activity that sets the apy??!!! Correct. If the network grows 3 times what it is and all the validators continue to validate 3 times more what do you think happens to the apy?!!!
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 3 days agoObviously I’m not explaining myself clearly. Let me simplify. Current apy is around 2% because the majority of Eth is locked up in staking protocols. When price rises and a huge chunk of Eth gets unlocked from staking protocols so people can sell the apy goes higher! Correct?
-
u/wangshuying 1 3 days agoWrong. Theres actually too much ETH being staked now
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 2 days agoThe network will tell you when too much Eth is staked. When APY is low, yes too much Eth is staked compared to on chain traffic. When APY is up, not enough Eth is staked to validate on chain traffic. When APY goes up, what happens?!! Many Eth holders say I’m going to stake my Eth and earn 4-5% and if on chain traffic continues to increase and no one is staking what happens? APY continues to increase until the needs are met, which attracts investors to lock up their Eth. And Vitalik continues to talk about killing L2s and bringing more traffic to Eths main chain. Lower transaction fees and higher speeds transacting.
-
u/MakCapital 1 3 days ago- Define "grow larger" when Ethereum didn't scale. Users and their revenue moved to GP L2s or competing L1s. Why things like around 90% of tokenized stock spot volume happen on Solana or perp OI happens on Hyperliquid. - APY moves up from revenue growth. Revenue growth comes from capturing more users. Most users now on competing L1s. Ethereum hasn't scaled. - Not sure why you think more validators are needed with more users or why that would equal more value. More validators only needed if more people stake ETH. Generally that just equals Coinbase or Lido spinning up more instances. Majority of holders can't actually "natively stake" or delegate their owned authority without relinquishing ownership over their asset. - If Ethereum doesn't scale for capital markets on L1: The next best narrative is private digital money or private "digital silver". Mandates from EF suggest they aren't trying to compete for Web3. ETH as money is the main focus with strong attention on encryption. Hence why so many have left. This wasn't their vision. Sooner everyone gets on same page the better. Ethereum isn't going anywhere, but for ETH to perform the community needs to come back together under one vision. Scale for users & capital markets or lean hard into the best private money. Latter easier for Ethereum.

u/Newlife_40 1 2 days ago2-3% apy vs 5% in savings account?
-
u/Treeclimber919 1 2 days agoYou can get 7% right now holding USDC on morpho. Do you want 5% of your dollars in a checking account or do you want 5% of your total ethereum? I’m not paid in dollars, I’m paid in ethereum. Ethereum will absolutely be worth more than your 5% earned interest. It also depends on what price you paid for your ethereum. If you run a node and paid $60k for your node and you’re earning 1 Eth a year which is worth more? Interest on 60k at 5%, is like $3k. 1 Eth a year earned running a node should sell for $4k without an issue. But what if Eth rips and hits $10k or even hangs out around last ATH at $5k you’re still up. If you’re a long term believer and holding no matter what I could just keep taking my 1 Eth a year put it to the side and wait for $20k. Tom Lee is changing the game, he hasn’t sold and continues to increase his holdings. A lot of the Eth to be bought is taken off the table. Eventually price will catch up if Eth does what it’s projected to do. I’m holding for 10 plus years and will continue to add until I’m able to retire off of running multiple nodes for income. Or I’ll just lose it all and life goes on. What I put jnto btc and Eth are long term savings but what I’m still able to lose if crypto dies. Solana and hyperliquid are shorter term plays that I also accumulate, along with a few other bs coins simply for trading such as Chainlink. But crypto isnt dying. The world is becoming more digital daily, and the ethereum chain is at the front of it all. Whether it’s next month, next year or 10 years. I will reevaluate as I need to.

u/SpontaneousDream 1 3 days ago1. This is an echo chamber. Of course people are going to tell you to buy and hold ETH. Many here have extremely heavy bags and have held much longer than you. 2. The crypto market has matured massively over the past few years. What actual investors care about these days is value capture/accrual- in other words, does the token accrue value through burns or buybacks? That is what you should be asking yourself. Coins don't grow in value simply because they have TVL or "DeFi".

If you’re investing (not trading) then that’s a different thing, what the price does this week/month/year literally doesn’t matter, the only thing that matters is your price target over a multi-year timeframe (and potentially a stop-loss should you not wish to stomach it coming below a certain level).

u/Mr_Footies 1 3 days agoETH is a swing asset and ranges from around $1K- $5K and has done for many years. For those that bought around $4K or above it’s tough, as it never broke out of that range, but buying at $2k and selling at $4k has been a good strategy. Just needs patience and not to fall into greed mode (it’s going to $10k!) when it does get back to $4k. Is it worth it for a 2x? Probably not as it’s painful waiting years, managing greed and oftentimes only have days to make a sale before it swings down again.
